I'm assuming the ST has the 2.3 with a 5spd? If so, I would go for the ST. Also, it depends on what color.
Although, I would probably buy a low milage white wagon with a 2.3. With our without a 5spd. If it did'nt come with a manual, I would take the extra money, and drop in a 5spd with a FS Turbo and a limited slip diff.....MMMMMMMMMMMMM
I would go with the 2005 ST the duratec is definitly worth the money and I hear that the svt takes premium gas. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I would rather pay for a fillup of regular over premium any day!

i dont care what any one says, the st is a poor excuse for a replacement. the svt is still quicker than the st and rides better than the st. im not fond of the four door, and the mazda is fing ugly. do the right thing and import a new st from the uk they have one fairly cheep.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2006-FORD-FOCUS-S ... dZViewItem

focinite...you realize that 17,000 pounds is like 30,000 us dollars right?
yeah ... no im not good at math..ha ha. the version of the st we have is not a real st. look at the st170(a svt) look at the st2(a turbo mazda 3) the new st is a turbo 5 cyl that is closer to the volvo t3 than any thing. but we get a 150 horse five speed turd and are sposed to be happy wit it, i think not. if it were up to me i would go with the svt its a much tighter package, as where the st is about as tight as a bucket of water.
