Ok, I found a nice set of SVT brakes from a guy and he wants to sell them. So hes gonna send them after this weekend. Has anyone installed discs inplace of there rear drums?

I think you need the whole bolt in frame for the rear, I am not sure...honestly, I would look into larger discs/calipers for the front before doing a rear disc conversion.

I did it on my tbird, your proportioning valve may have to be replaced with an adjustable ones, in the tbird, the rear would lock up before the fronts(bias was not setup for rear disks).

You may also need differant rear brake lines.

Talk to Steve at Tousley. Ask him about an SVT rear disc brake kit. Oh no, I've said too much!
Slower than your stock focus.

I got everything coming.
Hoses, Spindles, Rotors, Calipers, Brackets. Everything to convert it over. I just want to know how hard it will be, and if anyone had done it that recommended anything.
I'm gonna put bigger on the front later, but I might as well go for this now, since it is a steal.

shouldn't be too hard honestly... did you get a master cylinder? because disc brakes need more fluid than drum, so you might have a problem there....

Work required would be cake if its all bolt up, I recommend a power bleeder to ensure all bubbles are worked out, i would drain the master cylinder from both sides 2 times to ensure they are out, do not let the master cylinder run dry, you can damage it.

The only thing that you should need if it is direct bolt up would be an adjustable proportioning valve since you had drums stock. You can get these from summit, I think you would need 2 of them, I would grab my summit and look, but, my daughter tore it to shreads :?

Make sure you bleed them brakes good, work fast, your shit will drain very fast, not that I know or anything

Keep in mind, The SVT rear rotors are larger than your stock fronts so unless you get some sort of proportioning valve the back end of your car is going to pass you by every time you hit the brakes hard.

Should make for a fun ride though.

okay, i've got a question I need answering about this conversion. Nobody ever mentions a master cylinder, but drum brake's wheel cylinder has a small piston, and uses a small amount of fluid. Calipers have large pistons, and use a lot of fluid. Won't a regular master cylinder not be able to push up enough fluid to get some braking force?

Should be fine, but, if you are running into brake problems then yeah, a new master cylinder may be needed.

I would worry more about the porportioning valve.

I'm planning on upgrading the front brakes at the same time of this conversion. This prob won't get done till the middle of May or so. I want to get the SC up and running, and all the other parts on first. There is so much stuff here, it will prob take about a month to get it all on.
