If you're like me, you may have lost the plug protector for your block heater. Unfortunately, Ford doesn't sell these. Anyway, I found out from the manufacturer that these can be ordered through almost any auto parts store. The brand is Zero Start. They make the Ford block heaters and power cords. The part number is 3600012, and it is called a "Plug Protector". I found one locally for $3.69

My 2000 ZX3 had a block heater and it worked incredibly well, even warmed kept the transmission warm so it was easy to shift on those lovely -20 mornings.

Tank heaters makes me think of Wal-mart and trailer parks, sorry.

Personally I'd rather have a somewhat warm block and cold coolant than an ice cold block and hot coolant....

I guess it depends on the block heater and how long you use it, I used to plug in the ZX3 and let it go all night so it may not have been "hot" in the morning I sure got heat quickly.

Keep in mind that the Duratec is all aluminum so it may not retain heat from a block heater as well as an iron block Zetec.

Is it difficult to put a block heater in a Zetec car? Is it the freeze plug style?

My SVTF is a California car, so it didn't have any cold-weather stuff like a block heater, heated seats, traction control, etc. I had the dealer install a factory block heater one time when I had the car in for some warranty stuff. No, the block heater install was not covered under warranty. And yes, this is a frost-plug heater.

Ford doesn't sell the block heater kits anymore but I'm sure you can find them in the aftermarket.

I'm just too lazy to install one and WAY too cheap to pay someone else to do it.

Join the party. I'm grumbling about needing to pay someone to mount tires....

That's kind of an important step.
