so yesterday i noticed a puddle under the foci(it had not been leaking to groud till this point) so i started it up and added fluid. i then heard a sound only to be discribed as a fluid being forced at high pressure through a small hole and then a loud ping and fluid hitting the ground. it turns out that my rack has blown the inner seal completely out! it is hanging all ring toss style around the inner rod end......sooooo this week end in goes the svt rack(mmmmmmmm gear reduced, mmmmmmmmm)

Um, I think the racks are internally identical other than the steering stops.

Well, Zurno has one in his turbo car and it feels just like a regular Focus.focinite wrote:the svt rack has a different ratio. i do remember some of my multimedia traing from shcool.FORDSVTPARTS wrote:Um, I think the racks are internally identical other than the steering stops.

Ford did the same thing with the Cobra, It used the standard rack with different stops but the pump was different which gave the different feel.

yeah i noticed the feel when i had the svt pump vs the zx3. but the svt rack actualy takes less turns lock to lock. the pump is a vss style pump.FORDSVTPARTS wrote:Well, Zurno has one in his turbo car and it feels just like a regular Focus.focinite wrote:the svt rack has a different ratio. i do remember some of my multimedia traing from shcool.FORDSVTPARTS wrote:Um, I think the racks are internally identical other than the steering stops.

There was a difference, going from a Chromie to cRusty, the steering was different...it acts quicker...
Steve, you might be used to it, because you use the quicker rack all the time, i dunno. It might be in the my head, I've never driven a Focus that handled or reacted the same, so it might just be the car, but the steering did feel quick on cRusty tho..

well gott er dune. one thing i notcied as i was installing was the the tag that read"ST170 LHD" on the rack i also noticed as it was going through the caster sweep on the alingment rack at 45-50 degrees (steering wheel) the reading was almost at 7.5 degrees (front wheels) on the zx3 rack at 45-50 steering wheel the front wheels are like 6-6.25 wheel degrees. and driving i notcied a black and white comparison. if the steering wheel moves the car moves, there is no lag there is no question, if i go from the 12 o clock to the 12:01 it will start changing lanes, its almost as if my hands where attached to the front knuckels, thats the only way to describe it.
