For some reason my PATs system has decided to screw me over again. None of my 3 keys work now and I'm trying to work out some sort of work around.

Does anyone know actually how these go bad? Last September 1 of my 3 keys worked when in the prior year, all 3 worked. It leads me to believe the key loses something but my understanding is the key has a code which gets programmed in the ECU. Either way, it sounds like I'm screwed and it's a trip to Ford unless I just install my new tuning software on the car to bypass the PATs system. I guess I should have listened when my electronics friend told me the source of all my problems is the blue circle above the front bumper.

I honestly haven't seen a lot of problems with the PATS systems or the keys, I've NEVER seen a key fail other than failure due to physical damage.

I'd bet Focusmech could help with the diagnosis on this, Focinite may have an idea as well.

i've only seen it happen once where the pcm deletes the stored key codes. it was on an escape and all i did was re-program the keys. after that it worked fine. it might be something else but if its just a re-program, its pretty cheap

Justin-

When are you going to be home this week? Maybe I can stop over, and give a shot at reprogramming your keys.

I can be home any night of the week after five although Tuesday would work best. I'll be in the garage all day tomorrow. Although the transmission is almost out of the car now. I dont think it should interfere with programming the keys though. [offtopic]Been meaning to ask you, who installed your differential?[/offtopic]

as goofy as it sounds there is a old TSB on how certian wireless hrtz'es will scramble the pats modual, also if you have ground issues(like an alt ground) it will cause all sorts of nasty little prollems with the moduals. you may have what i call a sleeping issue. the car is set to sleep after sitting static for a regulated time. now if you have a tarded pats mod then it may be going to sleep sooner and or not waking up. the fact that this is a recuring issue, my moneys on the pats modual, it should be clipped to the pcm in the pass side kick panal.

Justins car is the epitome of electrical and grounding issues, I believe he's on alternator 5 or six now.

i think i'm more at 7 or 8 :)

I'm willing to bet it has something to do with the issues I've had in the past. When the electrical issues were really bad, my car would die on the side of the road and I'd see my PATs light blink fast for a period, then after about 30 seconds it seemed to reset and read my key again. In an event like this, is it something where the grounding resolves it or do you know if it's worthwhile to look into replacing the module?

Did you ever replace the battery cables like I suggested? If not then do it.

That and verify proper grounds at both ends of the car since your battery is in the hatch.
