ST vs SVT
so i have had a few offers come my way recently. i have just been offered a 07 ses zx3 with only 16000 miles for 9k and i also have been offered a 03 svt with 18000 miles for 10k. my problem comes in when i need to decide if i want to take either of these offers and sell off my 05 ST with 89k miles.

It sounds like you want a hatchback instead of your sedan. Is that right?
Personally I'd go for the SVT, it's a better car right off the bat. Better suspension, interior, body kit, brakes.
All that can be fixed on the 2007 but it'll cost a fortune.
For me the perfect car would be an SVT with an ST engine and trans in it, that 2.3 is a killer

well thats what i mean the ST is an awesome engine, but i do like the 6 speed, i do like the hatch, but its mainly to start over with with a fresh motor, 89k miles going all the way down to 18k miles. i know for sure if i keep the ST im going to put a new differential in it, im sick of the one wheel stuff, mostly in the winter, the SVT comes with one doesnt it? and actually this stuff just came up i was thinking about going to a bigger car like buying a fusion next year with the AWD. or going for the new SHO. but thats alot of money
I thoght the SVT's had a Torsen?? Guess not.
The EAP's have traction control. I've riddin in one in the winter running snow tires. Absolutly amazing the way they can take off from a stop on snow and ice.

The SVT doesn't come with a Torsen. You can get one for about $700.
With your ST I believe it has the SVT front breaks "correct me if i'm wronge" and the rears are just a bit smaller.
If you want a turbo the 2.3 takes to that very well
Personanlly if I were you I would stick with the ST another year and see if you persue though with the Fusion or SHO. More than likely there will be a low mileage SVT out there yet and or a low mileage hatch for cheaper yet.

1- No limited slip in the SVT like everyone says.
2-The SVT has bigger brakes at both ends of the car.
3-Keep the 2.3, even with the higher miles it's a better engine.
4-The Getrag 6 speed is fun in the twisties but it sucks big time on the freeway.
5-I love my SVT and wouldn't really give it up for anything but if the engine or trans failed I'd be real tempted to find a totalled ST and do a drivetrain swap.

is the focus chassis not called c30? dont the 99-05 c30s have a 5cyl option, are not the main chassises the same? my swap wasnt 100% bolt in, i had 90% of what i needed, granted the svt engine is offered in that chassis. i get to look at alot of cars( thanks to the russian auto body guys, they loooovvveee volvos) the c30 and s40 have the exact front cradle, control arms, rear cradle and control arms as the focus/mazda3 have. they also have the same exact inner cage for the body....its lego time!!!!

to answer dartfork....cost and hard to find parts, mazda does not sell speed parts with out a registered vin. about the only way to get one is to find a salvaged car. now finding one that is smashed inbetween unfixable and oh damm its crushed the drive train is hard. the best bet is to get a full front clip from a rear ender or a roll over( thats why i jumped on mine). with a full doaner its just swaping over parts and harnesses, you may need to fab some stuff, like mounts and hoses, all the little stuff. its the same for the svt swaps, its more times eaiser to just have an svt, than to source all the parts. just wait, if i find a speed 3, its on!!!!
