so i was boared and looking at the murker section on bat inc.com, found that the svt contour rims fit perfectly on a murker, so hmmmmmm they make all sorts of nice wheels for a murker, makes one think. 8)

Merkur.

XR wheels have a little less offset than the Focus, but they've got the same center bore. I believe the Contour has offset between the XR and the Focus. The selection for wheels for an XR really aren't any better than for a Focus.

correct, but they are different from all the other crappy every body gotem wheels. plus if the offsets are close and the hub centric are the same, then the rotor depth are close and the calipers may work( with some fab work). gotta think like a hot roder when yer poor. 8)

I wouldn't suggest trying to use XR brakes. They aren't any better than the stock Focus hardware. If you're going to fab up brackets, you'd be much better off doing so with some PBR two pots from a Mustang like most of the XR guys do as an upgrade.

I was thinking of trying to use Focus front brakes on my Porsche 924, but the 924 has solid front disks, so the vented rotors would be an upgrade.

hmmm. good call, i did see the pbr caliper kit on batinc, for years i have wanted that kit ,almost had the kit, ordered the kit and canceled order. i am scared of hacking a good set of knuckles. but honestly alot of the parts from an xr could work with some fab work. this is the same plat form as the eruo escorte correct? and over there they use that platform to mod out the focus dont they?

Sweet Jesus no. The XR4Ti is a Ford Sierra. There has never been a front-wheel-drive Sierra. Almost nothing will transfer between the two at all other than the wheels. The Escort Cosworth was the only one that would have had similar parts, but that's because it was a Mk5 or Mk6 (don't remember which now) Escort body tossed onto a shortened Sierra platform.

whoah!!!! sorry, i remember reading some wheres that alot of the rear drive convertions over seas where done using that seirra plat form. what the heck do they use for the awd converions? :?

The conversions that use a donor Sierra are basically doing what Ford did with the Escos; they're taking the Focus body and modifying it to fit over parts of the floor pan and suspension pickup points from the Sierra. They involve a lot more than just a couple minor mods. I've helped convert an XR to AWD using Sierra XR4X4 parts and even that took some modification to the body shell.

Don't they sometimes use parts from the Evo and the subaru?

As of right now I know of 2-3 Foci in the UK getting the Cossie AWD surgury done 8)

It's possible some use Evo and Subie parts, but he was asking about the Cossie conversions. Either way, I'd guess about the same number of parts would be modified. One of my friends was telling me I should do an AWD conversion on mine using Eclipse/Laser parts.

You'd be just further ahead to use a Audi Quattro setup. TTV6 AWD FTW.

Yeah, he was talking more about availability and affordability of the parts. I also like to be able to work on my cars and there's no way I'd be able to cram my hands in the bay with a TTV6 in there.
