Today I was driving down 35E from Lino Lakes to Inver Grove Heights and hit a big puddle. If I had actually removed the CAI we were talking about here, I would have been fine. Instead, I picked up a whole bunch of water and busted the nose off the starter. I checked it out and thought I'd been lucky because all 4 cylinders were moving and the 1-4 and 2-3 pairs were where they should have been. I put in the new starter (thanks, Steve) and cranked it over with the plugs out to get out the last of the water (which only made it into 2 and 3). Then I put the plugs back in and started it.
That's when I found out I've now got 2 holes in my block. Today has not been a good day.
Damn!

Oh, Man does that suck
Get a hold of Alfocus on here, he may have a used engine for you if you want one. I can do Reman units but they aren't real cheap.
Al's got a real nice complete SVT drivetrain right now in fact

Yeah, there's a Zetec on Craig's List for $175 (long block) with 97k on it. I was looking at that wrecked ZX4 (which appears to be either sold or back up to $1000, I'm not sure which) and I wouldn't mind an SVT swap, but I've been spending a lot on cars lately. Given that I'm not completely clear on what all I'd need for the SVT swap, it might be better just to go with the Zetec.

That is shitty, know how ya feel, been there myself.
Talk to Al about a long block. He has cars with >5,000 mi. on em. Average price on a good motor is $300-600.

I can talk to Al, but this one on CL is actually $150 for the long block and in my neck of the woods. Al's profile says he's in Hastings. I can pick up an engine in St Paul this week, but with the overtime I'll be working I'll have no chance of getting to Hastings for quite a while. If he's around the TC and has one for cheap, I'm all for going that route.
Man... OK, I'm calling him, but I can't make any promises. Anybody got an actual write-up on what the swap involves? I'd rather not go into that blind.Steve wrote:He currently has an '04 SVT that was rolled with only 37,000 on it, It even drives.

His swap was a bit more involved than Focinites, but probably easier.

I gutted the whole car because I wanted the interior too, so that made the wiring harness easy, but I think you can hack the wiring pretty easy. I think thats what Focinite did. So basically it should be pretty easy to do either way.
I talked to Al today and he said $1600 for the whole SVT minus brakes, interior and a couple other small things. It's really tempting, but I think I'm just going to have to go with a new (to me) long block. With another pair of hands, I might be able to do the swap in a weekend, but that's a lot of planning and a free weekend is quite a ways off. I think this means I'm a grown-up.

the only cut to the harness is at the fuel pump. take the carpet and dash skin off. make a cut at the pump 6-7 inches away (on your svt harness as well), solder and heat shrink. the swap is cake, i did it in a month of spare time, id work on it for a couple hours here and there. id do it again.SVT-swap wrote:I gutted the whole car because I wanted the interior too, so that made the wiring harness easy, but I think you can hack the wiring pretty easy. it would take ,if you wanted help, the two of us a weekend( a good 16 hours) to do every thing . if you have a more complete svt than i had, i had to get some parts) its just unbolt transfer and bolt on. its the best mod that i have made to my car, plus mine started as an automatic so i had to run the shifter cables. its not that hard to do the swap. Zurno was the only one with the balls to come and help( mad props bra.....harold wrote:I talked to Al today and he said $1600 for the whole SVT minus brakes, interior and a couple other small things.
