I just got a 94 2dr escort 1.9 5spd car with a bad motor from work for nothing...
So here is my question how bad do you think it would be to put a 2.0 zetec in this thing?
anybody hear of this before? any info will help
Thanks

the s/r escorte.....why not swap a svt motor and trans in. the s/rs were 180 hp or sumtin like that.KRYPTO wrote:Why dont you just swap it out for the HO escort motor they put in them. I dont remember the specs on them, but they were pretty fast? Then slap a turbo on it.

if you are referring to the ZX2 S/R it was about 145 HP. He couldn't put a SVT trans in too easily unless he felt like custom fabbing a lot of parts. A ZX2 motor and trans should be no problem due to being on the same platform. JeffscortLX did it once, but somehow used the older PCM and kinda rigged it all together, not sure how.focinite wrote:the s/r escorte.....why not swap a svt motor and trans in. the s/rs were 180 hp or sumtin like that.KRYPTO wrote:Why dont you just swap it out for the HO escort motor they put in them. google svt escort swap. its not hard at all.. i got like 5 hits right away. plus the getreg has multiple mout holes, and the escort has multi holes as well. the best thing to do to a scert, is junk that tranny any ways. the out put shaft to the diff is very small and weak.
plus a z-tek swap is gonna be just as hard. think...if a getreg is not gonna work, why would a mtx-75 work. the scort uses a different manual trans than the foci.

Jeffescortlx did just that: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/419565/10
however you'd be better off getting a bone yard 1.9, with a 2.0l head and turboing it

check out jeff's two turbo's super scorts: http://www.cardomain.com/id/jeffescortlx

who said anything about a MTX-75? The Escort ZX2 had a ZETEC with VCT on the exhaust cam. It was bolted up to a mazda tranny in a platform that Ford got from Mazda. It is basically the same transmission as what came in the Escort GT with the 1.8. The 1.8's final drive ratio is different from the ZX2's final drive ratio (early ZX2's might of been the same ratio as the Escort GT). This transmission is Mazda's G series of transmissions. The 1.9 may have been bolted to a weaker I believe F series Mazda transmission.
On another note, you could somewhat easily shove a Mazda V6 (MX-6, Probe, MX-3) engine into the car. The MX-3 used a variation on the chassis used on the last gen 323/First gen Protege/2nd gen Escort/3rd gen Escort. This means you can use that V6 in an Escort with the right mix of MX-3 parts and whatever else it takes.
But the zetec swap he was referring to here would be the cheapest route. I believe a used zetec motor costs a bit less than a 1.8 Mazda motor. Then you run into whats different between the 2 electrical systems(probably not an exact drop in item here). He has been presented with an opportunity to buy a whole car complete with electrical system. It should be about the same difficulty as swapping a SVT motor into a non SVT Focus.

if i remember he can use same harness, it just needs a few conectors swaped over( no cuttin, just repining) on the svt swap the whole harness comes out, make a cut at the fuel pump and yank till you hit the front bumper, oh and most the harness is under the dash. fun time!!!!! but i like the v6 idea!!!!! hells yeah.zurno wrote:focinite wrote: But the zetec swap he was referring to here would be the cheapest route.
