Seriously, not to sound like an ass. But why even charge with us?
There are multiple people who work on peoples cars on this board, that do an awesome job at it (myself, rod, justin, davis, zurno, kyle, randy, steve, etc. etc.) and none of them charge. So why do you feel the need to? I mean, yea all of us could use the extra money, but that is why we are this type of close knit community, to help each other out.
Just my $.02

Quite a few of us know how to rebuilt motors, and would be happy to help members For FREE, so I have no problem if you feel the need to charge people. Just an FYI that's why no one will continue to ask you for help.

the guy has a tool that costs several thousand dollars. Sure, he could be a nice guy and let us use it whenever we want, but its his time, his expensive machine. Compared to what a shop would cost his price is hardly anything. If you don't like how much he charges, than go elsewhere, but don't yell at the guy for trying to offset a small fraction of the cost of an expensive tool

the thing is, we're a rather mechanically enclined bunch, we're not talking about YOU alone doing a complete motor rebuild... people on this site would drive 100 miles just to sit around with a couple beers and say, throw some cam's in a black focus with stripes on its silly hood, lolfocinite wrote:well then help me out, im needing money for food and rent!!!! i have to make money some where. i figured id try but fuck i guess ill do it for free....... everyone wants there shit for free!!!!!!! man i love this !!!!! hay! tell ya what hows about, the next time some one needs a motor rebuilt, fuck bring it to me ill do it for FREE!!!!!!

i thought about it, you guys are right, if you need any help, ill help. zurno, i do make really good money, weddings cost alot of my really good money. Pappy, no one asks me for help, not cus the money thing, but most likely cus i scare people, shit i help rossvt alot, ive helped and offerd help for no money to alot of people. i didnt charge sucka for sitting in the 10 degree weather wiring his head lights in. and yes most shops charge a mininum of 45 bucks to pull a solid dtc, just the code, im willing to solve the problem( full scan and diag, with the volt meter, spec sheets, all that jazz) . zurno, i picked the scanner up for 280, i figured it was the least i could do for getting drunk and breaking my friends leg!!! i charge not to pay off the scanner, but to help my friend ( no health innsur.) and to make ends meet. my parents dont give me money....shit im almost 30 years old, when funds get tight you work for money. im not expecting any of you to ask for help, but hell maybe your friend, or some one else has a car problem that you cant fix or solve....but hell yeah you wanna go pay 90 bucks to have some one that you dont know at all do it thats fine too. so any way as pappy says im an ass cus i dont work for free.

Guy's I think you are out of line with Focinite. There is a line between sitting around and helping out a buddy from time to time and someone using his/her occupational skills. As an example I could say that o2 shouldn't charge you for a MNFOCUS decal cuz he's your buddy and he shouldn't charge me either cause I belong to MNFOCUS also. Is it right for us to say that because one occupation is closely related to the club that that person should not be able to benefit from his/her expertise? If there was someone on the list that was a master painter would you expect him or her to shoot your bumper or car for nothing other than the costs of materials, I think not. I did not expect my co-worker Doug to paint my parts for free but I figured he'd give me a price that was much cheaper than having them shot at a pro. There is a line out there and we should respect the fact that each and every one of us has the right to limit our time spent helping others gratis. I can tell you that I may do an hour or two worth of engineering work for nothing especially if it was something that I was really interested in, but I wouldn’t commit to a 40 hour job without some compensation for my expertise. Our diverse individual areas of expertise and knowledge are what makes the group stronger and have the ability to help each other out. We all set our own limits as to what we will and will not do for free or fee. We all have the right to like or dislike others limits and the right to choose who we ask for help. I wouldn't expect Focinite to work for free, in fact I thought that what he proposed was a good deal. Why? Because I do not have a scan tool nor the expertise to use one at this time so there is value in hiring him at a very reasonable rate. There are others on this list that may have the abilities and the tools to do the same that you may ask because they seem to be a bit more sharing of their time. If they cannot figure it out maybe spending a couple of bucks having a professional take a look at it isn't a bad thing. Hell I pay to have my oil changed because I don’t like doing it. I doubt that any of you would want to come over every month and change my oil while I watched and do it for nothing month after month. Me thinks it would get old in a hurry and you would probably start feeling a bit used and resentful.

as far as mechanic work goes, a bunch of us help out between eachother and just kinda hang out in the process. I am sure if more of us weren't broke or cheap they would go to him. I myself usually do things at my dads house, out in the parking lot, or if I really need it done fast I take it to my Friend's place (ok, his dads place where he still lives). His dad bought a lift recently and charges $10 a day lift fee to slowly help pay for it. The friend is a mechanic by trade, so between the lift and the mechanic things go quickly, where it might take twice as long screwing around with it myself at my dad's place.
I really don't know what his service would bring to us. I don't know how his scanner compares to a $100 scan tool.
Besides, everyone knows a Ford will continue to run when broken anyways

wow. thank you, this is what i was trying to say, thank you.. now i should make my self more clear.... if you have a skill im also willing to labor swap, thats what i do with rossvt and it works out rather well, i dont expect him to go out of his way, matter of fact last week end i had him do some tuch up stuff and i helped clean the body shop, and scaned some cars, and helped take a load to the dump. i am reasonable. i always tell him im not looking for perfection, but i am willing to go out of my way to help him, even if that means driving to rochester( about an hour and a half) the guy i sold my header to, calls and i try to help over the phone as much as possible. but i do agree, i am willing to help, but i gotts ta make mine too.grocerygetter wrote:![]()
