I'm thinking about shutting up the car a bit, and bolting on a SVT header. When you do this, what else is required? I have a brand new, hi-flow cat from Magnaflow that came with my exhuast. Will that work? And will my current Magnaflow work with the headers, or do I have to get a new exhaust?
Pants too tight, wheels so bright!
Getting the svt header will not necessarly quite your car down, what is your current exhaust right now? You are forced induction, more air in=more noise out.
Putting the cat on is prob going to make a noticable dif on your power, if I was you, I'd find the largest resonator that you can fit under there, or else 2 shorter ones, and make sure they get installed the right way, usually they are perferated on the inside...from your header-back you should run 2.5" flex to 2.5" exhaust, add in a resonator or 2 and a quality muffler.

i couldn't disagree more. he's not making that much more power and there is a considerable audible difference between the svt header + cat and most other header setups. There's a reason SVT guys leave the stock setup in tact. I'm running a kamikaze header, with a high flow cat, muffler, and no res and it's still loud as shit.
reconstruction.
He didn't say anything about buying the svt cat, he said he had a magnaflow cat and was looking at buying the svt header. The reason svt guys dont replace the header is becasue its already the best header on the market, the svt also uses a high flow cat, and if he is boosted, more air in=more noise, a good resonator and muffler should quiet it down just fine.
I guess it depends on if your existing cat is a bolt-on or welded on. I don't know if the SVT and non-SVT's use the same header bolt patern, I'd assume they would. If that is the case keep you existing high-flow cat and botl/weld it where you can fit it.
I'm pretty sure there is also an issue with the power steering lines (something has to be moved?). I know the exhaust lines up different. So you traditional ZX3 cat back won't bolt up to the SVT exhaust, differance in the length of the "flex pipe".

What do you want the car to sound like?
John
svt cat goes up under the motor and its sorta contoured to fit, being that the svt header is more of a mid-length header.
right now o2 has I belive an OBX long tube header...thats why I said just add in a good resonator and a good quality muffler and it should quiet it down quite a bit, espeically if there is no resonator or cat on it now...
Oh... If you don't have any REAL muffler to speak of then yes put one on. These fucking APC ricer can type things are not Mufflers. They are just a big resonator. A good muffler will have tuned baffels in it, not just a large straight through hole
.

having a high flow cat can actually help your performance, because it heats up the exhaust gas and warm stuff flows faster

The better performance muffler is still a straight through style. I watched as one of my buddies swapped out flowmasters, and put magnaflows on and picked up 3-4/10's consistently on the same day. From that point on we called them chokemasters.

ok main.. im running the same cat bac as you and i have a long tube four into one and its loud!!!! i threw a magna hi flow cat in the mix and did nothing to dampin sound. with out the cat my car sounded exactly the same a my buddies 626 with a header and a down tube i had a muff and there was no diff between the two cars..... now for the svt header, if you dont wanna run the 900 dollar svt cat you are gonna need a off road pipe or a custom made flex pipe, you are gonna wanna run a good resinator( areo chamber, thank you iminhell, or some crap has a good product) just look up stainles uni resinator on e bay. but as long as you have the same flang to flange connection and your lenghts match up you should be golden, i would also keep it the same diameter. a old hot rod trick is to make a blister pipe. it is a section of you exhaust that goes from base diameter to a quater biger then down to base then to a half biger then back to base diameter again, it keeps the sound waves busy.o2designs wrote: I'm thinking about shutting up the car a bit, and bolting on a SVT header. Um....ok. But warming a fluid (air) also makes it expand. The expansion is not unidirectional (out the pipe) it is omnidirectional (expanding in every direction). (besides the fact that catalitic converters are a joke and actually serve no function what so ever)

As I said "tuned baffels", not restricting baffels. It is trial and error. There is no muffler designed specifically for each individual cars setup. You have to experiment. It will usually be a compromise between sound level and flow.
I actually gained TQ by putting a muffler on the Conquest (hooker Aerochamber).

off road pipe, aka SVT CAT REMOVAL?
