I'm sick of the big ass box, and 2 heavy subs in back of my hatch. Last night I pulled the box. Now I need to start over to replace it. I'm going to use one of my 12" TypeR sub. I was thinking about doing something in fiberglass. But it does'nt have to be. I'm looking for something pretty light weight. Anyone with any ideas? Pictures welcome!!

Heres what I've had for a year....

Since I do plan on entering in some shows eventually, I need something flashy, yet, subtle.

you could try out what I am planning, 2 10's fiberglassed into the cargo cover, obviously some that arent too heavy and ones that dont require much volume in their enclosure. I plan on aiming them right at the hatch to make up for their lack of size

Uhhh, I don't like that idea. Your just gonna mount the sub into the cover with no box? My bro in law was gonna do that with 6x9, I thought it looked like crap. Let alone with a 12" Alpine TypeR like I have, I don't think the cover would be able to hold the power plus weight. It would vibrate and sound like shit.

Those things have a pretty big motor on them and that is going to be that bad part.
I'd like to see a box (fiberglass) build into the side panels where the rear passenges would sit. There is enough room behind the panel for the motor to fit and the panel would only move about 1". This way you would loose no cargo area and noone would really see that you have a stereo, theif deturant. Most of the box would be able to be made outside of the car and nothing would really have to be formed to any panel. It should all fit between the wheelwell and the b pillar.
But that is just me. I like the stock look.

I also thought of putting drivers where the rear speakers are and like the stock look....christ, I got a twin

I don't know how intrusive you want to make your system or whatever...but, if it was me, I am guessing you're young and have no kids, tear that back seat out, and glass a single sub into the rear tire well.

I was going to do stereo in my car, but with the exhaust and solid motor mounts, it's pointless, I don't have my eq or nothing set in there and usually drive in silence.

Another option that I am looking at when I ditch this solid motor mounts, is, I am going to glass some pods into the doors. Element designs or whoever they are make a 7" subwoofer, JL makes a 6.5" and there are a few others out there, I am thinking of doing 3 way compoents or else I am going to do a single woofer on each side on the back, not sure yet.

I just picked up my old 5 channel amp from my bro so all my crossfire gear is gone.

I will prob pull an Umdivx and do a single type r 10 after I do something about the vibration and noise, angle the back of the box to go along the back seat, and, make the box out of 1/2" mdf with triagle gussets and glue and call it a day. My battery is also going to the trunk.

Also, check out sounddomain for the stereo installs in the focus, good place to get some ideas....

it would have a box (and you could technically run a free air sub if you could get it sealed a bit back there anyways)

I would be using a much lighter sub than that type R, if I can still find on these days, I dont think JL W1V2's are overly bulky and I know they have a decently small enclosure need for a sealed enclosure, like .67 cubic feet each, so I could mold a box under the cover and still have storage space, big downfall would be how easy it would be to jack that shit

I think you would gain a lot of efficiency with that setup, which I may try to get done somewhat soon, so if you havent gotten yours done before mine you can check it out. I wil probably just test it with some cheap bazooka 10's I have laying around first though

This would be cake to do. use packing peanuts to calculate the volume and put them in a pre-measured box then use wood strips to built a skeleton to do.

I've got one Alpine Type R 10" in a sealed .75 box and it pounds for a single 10 in a sealed box. Go onto google video or youtube, there are a shit ton of vids on how impressive the type R's are, IMHO JL's are passed its prime, and way way too much money. For the $500 I spent on my amp, wire kit, sub and box, I am extreamly happy with the results.

hay good thing you brought this up... im cutting the spare tire well out for this very reason(out of the roll over) im thinkin of sinkin my 10s and my amps down closer to the floor( better c-o-g) that way i can do all the fab and make a huge mess its great, and fiber glass sucks  i get it all over the place when i work wit it. its as bad as anti seez in a mech shop. im also gonna pull the doors and work a 8 into the foam pocket there!

I won't take out my spare. I think I'm just gonna build a simple box. Add a port, and cover it in leather to match the rest of the int.

As for the TypeR's, I love mine. I kinda like taking one out. Incase something goes wrong with the one in the car, I've always got an extra one sitting here.
