Hey everyone. I am trying to change out the fuel pump on my 03 focus. Does anyone have the special tool to unscrew the pump from the tank? I tried to jimmy rig all sorts of tools on that cap to twist it off. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Changing Fuel Pump - Special Tool
I use a 3/8" extension and a rubber mallet.
Tap firmly near the bottom on a rib and move around the ring. Never had any problems getting it off/on.
Actually just pulled my pump last weekend to change my sock filter.

also a note, if it is the factory fuel pump, you will have to cut the fuel pump retainer from the bottom of the fuel tank once the pump is out. otherwise the new pump will not go in. updated pump

Just curious: What is the life expectancy of a Focus fuel pump?

It's an SVT, no worries about the retainer ring.FocusMech.73155 wrote:also a note, if it is the factory fuel pump, you will have to cut the fuel pump retainer from the bottom of the fuel tank once the pump is out. otherwise the new pump will not go in. updated pump

No clue, I've seen them go more than 200,000 miles. Doesn't mean yours will but it happens.oldoutboardjim wrote:Just curious: What is the life expectancy of a Focus fuel pump?
