Ok so I know I've been on here like a madman for the past couple of days but I wanna try something. Does anyone know anyone who could help me make an adapter or something so I can get all that nice fresh air that'll be comin in my hood right to my throttle body? I had a AEMcai and I was thinking of swapping to a short ram but I wanna c if i could make this work. I know it would be tricky with the MAF sensor but if it can be done I wanna do it.

The AEM SRI would help, if you come to the next meet you can take a look at mine to get an idea to where the filter is gonna be. Did you get your hood yet?

I'd def be willing to trade my CAI for a SRI but not a whole lot of people won't do that. I think I'm actually gonna make it to the meet. no I don't have the hood yet and my car will most likely still be trashed from the accident cause I haven't gotten the quarterpanel yet, but hey atleast I'll finally get to meet everyone!

Make an adapter to go to from your hood to an adapter to convert the box adapter from the hood to the diameter of the maf/inlet tube.

It should be cake, fab it up out of carboard/tag board, line it with tin foil, lay down some fiber glass, let it set, peel off tin foil, add more layers til your happy, sand/prime, get weather stripping to allow it to seal to the hood. You could prob get your hands on some steel/thicker sheet metal to make brackets to hold it in place.

Then, go to exhaust shop, have them fab up the rest of it from the adapter/box to the TB with provisions for the maf(or use ABS plastic from menards, the black pipe in the plumbing section). Get your hands on silicone couplers like used for the turbo piping on turbos, or, go to menards and buy the rubber fittings and hose clamps. If you want to make it a real cold air setup, get some insulation to put over the piping, and, get some sheet metal to act as a heat sheild.

It seems overwelming, but, it could be done.

I could prob help you with it, but, I don't have a resporater for the fiberglass, I do have some weather stripping, and, I would be more then willing to help. I can get the metal/sheet metal to make the brakets n junk.

By the sounds of what your after is something like the volant setup umdivx has, I believe the air is pulled thru the holes in his hood and uses weather stipping to seal to the hood.

You could also set it up to use a larger K&N cone filter so there is even less resistance.

Essentially yes. but I want the least amount of cruves as possible. If I have to I'll just run a really short ram( ebay's and cut off another couple of inches) That way The air from the hood will hit it without any adapter or anything.

ok, i'll trade you my stubby intake for your aem, it consists of the elbow from a ractive short ram-MAF-filter
i worried about the MAF distance as well, but my car ran flawlessly with this setup, i had no problems with it.
pm me if interested in taking a gander
here's a short vid i had when i had it on the car a while back
