Race track?

Come on Sally, The only place you can really hit the wall is in the kink and if you do that you won't be doing much crying.

That's why they have the gravel traps, you might roll in the gravel but you can drive away from that.

BTW- The kink is a very scary place to make a mistake, lots of skidmarks on the track and lots of colorful paint marks on the wall.

If you look at the map I posted you will see the kink just after the carusel, In touring I was taking the carusel in third and I was winding out in fourth coming into the kink and I have to tell you. I scared myself going through there in my SVTF.

Now BIR is a scary track, the run off areas are all grass and about the only thing that will slow you down if you go off at turn 1 or 2 is the trees.

Even scarier, The restroom and shower facilities. I camp at the track and BIR has the nastiest skunkiest water I have ever smelled.

It is really quite fun to drive though, My Fathers vintage group has been invited the last couple years to run on the BMW club weekend.

BIR was the first big track I ever went to.

The one in the pic was a '69 Skylark with a '71 455 shortblock, '70 small chamber heads, Poston "window rattler" cam 284-304 duration 490 lift on 113 centers , T/A sp1 open plenum intake, Holley 850 double pumper, Poston headers 1 7/8 in primaries and 3 1/12 in collectors, modified TH400 with a 12 bolt 3.36 posi, I ran it across the scale at the landscape supply I worked at and it was 3400 lbs.

When I first put the motor in it had a 2.56 one wheel ten bolt rear end and it ran 3000 rpm at 90 mph, I blew up three of the 10 bolt rears before I got the 12 bolt and I smoked a TH 375 and a TH400 before I had the "good" TH400 built.

Off the line it would ROAST both rears HARD all the way through second gear fishtailing all the way, slight traction problem.

It was never on a dyno but stock they were rated at 360 hp (underrated according to the NHRA) and 510 lb ft, lets just say it was well beyond that.

Of course it got about 8 mpg and you couldn't drive it in the winter. It was fun but I have to say that overall I have more fun in my SVT, I just don't get as much attention witht the SVT.

That was an awesome video. We should def do some road racing this summer. Hopefully I'll have my anti-roll set-up by then

steve....500 ftlbs... oh the focus is more fun to drive!!!!!!! man i just dont know, i think that the tousley mind beam has takin hold, quick stick your fingers in your ears and go ... la la la la la la la !!!!!

Track days and schools are open to all makes as far as I know. I have not done a school yet but I hope to this year.

Now if I can just get in my car with a helmet on

The old Skylark was ballistic in a straight line and pretty much unbeatable when it came to smoky burnouts but the thing had NO brakes and couldn't turn a corner to save it's life. I loved the car and I would like another but for overall fun to drive factor? Give me my SVT.
