Auto Zone is offering a pretty good deal right now on oil and filter:

$27 gets you 5 qts of Valvoline full synthetic and a Fram Toughgard filter (Fram's best, I think)
AND $10 rebate besides the sale. (Yah, I hate rebates too, but $10 is $10)
and the rebate is for $25 if you go for 10quarts

They also have a sale (+ smaller rebate) on the conventional oil and the reg. Fram filter, if you prefer...

Those Fram filters are dangerous, they have a tendency of falling apart.

What? I know tons of people including myself and my dad who have used Fram filters for a long time and never had a single problem with them.

And yes...that is a great deal. I might have to go pick some up seeing as I'll be changing my oil soon.

I lost a anti-drainback valve on one and had the filter media shred in another.

So can I buy just the oil and get the rebate or do you have to buy the filter too?

I think the deal includes the filter, too.

$16.99 5qts conventional oil w/ base Fram filter (+ $5 rebate)
$26.99 5qts full synth w/ better filter (+ $10 rebate)

But if you're good on filters maybe you could work out a different deal... never hurts to ask

Even if a guy threw the filter away that's still on $3.40/qt. That's a pretty good deal for Valvoline s
Synpower. I'm going to have to check it out.

I pay 16.95 for my oil change. That comes with motorcraft oil, motorcraft filter, vacuum, car wash, and I don't have to do it myself......call me lazy but I think thats a better deal

I wouldn't even call you lazy and I'd be more inclined to call you smart. But changing oil and spark plugs is almost me at my best, when it comes to wrenchin' on cars, so it gives me a certain satisfaction to do the little things...

Why I would ENJOY that job, I still don't know, but i DO.

Eh, I've heard too many horror stories about people getting their oil changed by somebody else. Not saying doing it is terrible or anything, I just prefer to do it myself.

I do agree with you. The nice thing is though, if they screw anything up, it gets fixed for free. I did used to do my own oil changes, but after working on cars for 40hrs a week I just don't have the motivation to crawl under my car and change the oil
