I have about 30,000 miles with this setup, and it runs very well, thank you - except for an annoying (and common) stutter at about 2,700RPM. I have the Ford Racing tune. Other than the JRCS+BBK, the engine is stock.
Anyway, I've been thinking about getting a tune, but it's been so long since I last inquired about this, that I forgot everything (it's hell getting old!). I know I need some type of hand-held interface, plus getting a tune at some shop.
Here are my criteria:
a) I don't want to give up mileage.
b) I don't want to give up driveability.
c) I don't want to risk doing any damage to the engine.

Here are my questions:
1) I want to hear from people who have tuned their SVTF with the JRSC+BBK. What was done? What are the numbers? What difference do you notice when you drive it?
2) Recommended systems & tuners (in the midwest, please).

Thanks in advance!

Jim,

Dan at DBPerformance is the way to go. He tuned my Custom BBK JRSC for a normal Zetec. He gained me 40 whp from my mail order Tune I was running.

-The driveability is amazing. It drives like completely stock. No sputtering, missing, or anything. Idles fantastically and has very smooth power delivery.

-Gas Mileage: This car went from getting 14mpg on my mail order tune. Now I average almost 30. To be honest I get BETTER mileage in my boosted car then in my bone stock Zetec Sedan...

-Dan tunes SCT and is also one of their distributors. So all you would have to do is drop the car off and they will have the software right on hand to install into your car. If you want to Flasher, (hand held unit) you can most likely buy one from them. But... I don't see why you would need it, I don't have one.... Also with SCT if you choose they can burn multiple tunes that operate off a flip switch (IE: One HIGH horsepower tune, one gas mileage tune, one stock tune, etc...)

-Dan is very thorough and very good with Fords. It is ALL he tunes and he is extremely accredited being in multiple magazines, etc.

Don't quote me on prices. But I believe they are $250 First hour/$100 an Hour after that, plus software fees. I had a SCT chip already and my tune cost me approx. $600. (It ended up being more because I had to go in twice since he found I had a blown diverter valve the first time I went in and it wasn't found till I was all hooked up on the dyno and the tuning started.) Dan was great and gave me a break because of this. He not only does the dyno tuning but also tests the street-ability of the car with some street driving.

Good Luck! You WILL love it. I stand by it, that my tune was the Single best thing I did for my car. I've put 10,000+mi on my car in the past year and a half since he tuned it (at 200whp/166wtq) on my bone stock motor. I beat on the car every time I drive it and have had ZERO ,echanical problems. The motor is still great and that is after auto-xing the car among other things.

x2

Although Jim will need to buy the hand held from them and keep it, the SVT is strictly a flash tune, no chip you plug in and leave in the car.

The nice part of that is that if you need a minor adjustment to your tune you could just call DB and say "Please adjust the idle speed to ---" and they can tweak it and e-mail you the file and then you just upload it to the hand held and reflash the car.

Yea. I had a little idle issue that Dan fixed for me free of charge.

I wasn't aware for the SVT you needed the flasher... good to know.

Contact DB first, you don't want to buy an obsolete tuner. The other issue with buying a used tuner is you run the risk that it's locked and you won't be able to use it.

It's probably worth the money to just do it right. Most tuners only use one style programmer as well so you have to be sure which one they use.

I believe the XCal 3 is what you will want, I think that's the newest SCT handheld device.

I have the XCal 2.

Was that a price from DB or some other random place?

BTW-If you had my money you certainly wouldn't be worrying about a tune because your car would still be stock. :?

The $400 price is from C-F-M. The list price from SCT is $479. Ouch!

Right but that may not be the price from DB, typically you'll get a better deal from the tuner since he's also getting paid to tune your car.

That's why I said to call DB first.
