I really want to get the CFM high flow cat for my SVT for the performance gains in the midrange....

Problem is I can only find 1-2 decent exhaust sound clips with stock exhaust in place.

I am perfectly fine with the sound of the stock exhaust and wouldnt mind louder, but I dont want a raspy/hollow sound.

Any one heard one in person with a stock SVT exhaust or have an insight????

Buy it, it'll be louder but you can always add a resonator.

I have one with my stock SVT exhaust and its a bit more loud than I want it.

Personally I would put on a borla or other after market exhaust to help out the sound. Like Steve said add a good resonator.

do you have a sound clip or vid? I'd really like to hear it in person actually, you head over to University at all?

Sorry I don't have a sound clip of it. I won't be making it to uni anytime soon with that car.

Its a hair less anoying and poppy than a SVT with a ORP.. :)

the stock svt.....any stock cat flows just fine unless the in and out are super dinky like the stock ztec setup. plus the cat wount add any real power for the money. the stock svt system is like 2 1/2 or just a hair smaller, that whole system is maximized to the flow of the head. you want more mid range, take the couple hundred that the cat cost and buy a voodoo in a bottle setup. or boost it, or spend the cash on a clutch kit so you can get rid of the stupid heavy ass DMFW, the clutch master kit runs around 8oo bucks and it shaves 11-12 pounds ( thats like gutting the whole car sept the drivers seat). 8)

So then how do you explain the average 8-10 hp gain that virtually all of the guys running hi-flow cats have picked up?

I'm not talking manufacturers claims, I'm talking FJ members with independent before and after dynos.

Most bolt ons aren't going to do much at all but a hi-flow cat or orp do make a significant difference on these cars.

Chris's SVT picked up about 2-3 whp when we installed a short ram and 65mm tb and we installed the parts WHILE the car was strapped to the dyno so I'm well aware that most bolt ons don't come close to what they claim.

Next you'll be saying that a good flash tune doesn't do anything for an SVT either. :?

so can you feel 8-10 horse power, cus i know i cant, and the tune im not gonna knock it cus i havent tried it, but from what i have hear and seen the tune is prolly the first mod a svt owner should do. i have seen as much as 25 horse and 28 ftlbs increese at the wheels on hundreds of random svt foci( depending on umteen different veriable). i do know the ford has a 30% rule, they take around 30% of the power out to add reliability. but what im saying is the svt cat is not all that restrictive( they do plug up , mines starting to go south) if you want to spend the money fine do it, but id wanna get the failer prone clutch gone first and foremost. sport compact did a clutch swap on there turbo svt and they said it was night and day, it reved quicker, it shifted better, it got rid of the indy shift. the stock DMF is like 20+ pounds as the 800 dollar clutch master solid fly wheel is like 8 pounds, this just the two fly wheels. the cat is just a waste right now, a N/A svt wount see a huge gaine from just a cat. and like i said can you feel 8-10 horse power in the butt dyno cus in all honesty who gives a flying f@*&! about dyno numbers,they are just a calculated guess at power.

wouldn't be just a cat... ported TB and tune along with a new tune for the cat would see great noticeable increase i would presume... only issue i cant get over is having a car that drones out my hearing like my last focus did with a magnaflow catback.

Plus, you really cant be a stock SVT exhaust sound at WOT....its a thing of beauty.

Sorry but if you can't notice a ten horsepower gain in a car that weighs 2700 pounds you need to get your butt recalibrated.

It's not all about peak horsepower either, Torque is what you really notice but people tend to always quote horsepower (including myself).

Chris and I dynoed at the same dyno on the same night within 1/2 an hour of each other and his car did 143 whp and 128 lb ft.

Mine did 151 whp and 135 lb ft with the same basic bolt on's, the only difference was the tuning.

Theres a hell of a big difference between 128 lb ft and 140 lb ft (see my last comment below) in these cars,I know I can sure feel it.

After a revision of the tune mine did 154 whp and 140 lb ft and I've had one more tweak since then but haven't dynoed since. You can say what you want about dyno numbers but the comparison above is a good solid comparison and the numbers fall right in line with the average numbers people have posted from across the country.

one question steve, i'm still confused how you had Randy at FSwerks tune your car, isn't your dyno sheet from a local shop?

Remote tuning, I just used the dyno at Hi-tech since I know Chris and he used to work there and that's where I've gone every time to be sure I get a decent comparison.

You just get the run file from the dyno and send it to the tuner and they look at the data and tweak it a bit.

CH435 is tuning his turboed Saleen remotely as well but he's using datalogging.

is that the same night i went up there? i wounder if they still got my sperr of the moment pull? it ripped off a 165 and 158 at the 16s, the guy with the mazda( i think thats chris) said, thats weird and did another pull, this time in third and it put down 170 at 162ftlbs, honostly it had to be a glitch or the 16s where messing with it, but thats stock to my knowlege sept the dryer ducting short ram. but back to my point, 8-10 horse incresse is about a 5-6 ftlb increese, and yeah i cant feel that, its still dead ass slow, its still impossible to make a focus any where near big boy fast, its all a waste........sorry im getting depressed.
