I am just looking for opinions, you have to have a power adder to answer.

Which type on a focus Supercharged, Turbocharged, or Nawz. Which would you want and why? If you have one, how has your experience with it been? Pros and Cons? Discuss.

I'll start, if I were buying a power adder right know, I would choose turbocharging even though IMO it more expensive and less reliable, the efficients of the system and power output is too much to resist.

I was thinking something like this

I would do a turbo.

More bang for your buck and easier to get power out of.

But its also fun to listen to the SC's wine and the power is right there :)

N2O I just don't like the stuff. I guess it would be cool to roll through a parking lots and purg it to blow up girls skirts :)

Gotta love them turbos. Just make sure that either you've built your block, or make sure all them hoses are connected properly. I've never had issues with my duratec turbo kit from focus sport (at least that weren't my fault.)

Well for the poll I had to go with option four

As for the power adder?

Turbo is about the only option these days unless you want to find a used supercharger and Nitrous is just a quick way to needing a new engine.

FYI-The stock SVT engine is good for about 360 whp with a properly tuned turbo so anything less will be very dependable.

Note I said "properly tuned" that is the key!!

In all honesty a turbo, when done right and again, tuned properly, is actually more efficient and more reliable than a SC

Dan at DB is Amoozing.

I love my supercharger, but I'm also a fan of a 'properly' done turbo kit. I'd do either.... Same power ranger, supercharger is superior IMO because of the instant power, but you can make a lot more power with a turbo setup.

Nitrous is fun and can make you car fast as piss.... but I may a few, literally melted, pistons in an old motor of mine, that might disagree with me.....

Turbo. But I went option 4 myself.

Turbos have more range. But the real question is what do you want. 200whp, 300whp, etc. If you are looking for the upper hp ranges, turbo is the only thing to get you there. I believe I've seen a powerworks pulling some good numbers, but you need a kit first, and a new one is not an option. There are some very nice turbo kits out there. Xios, FS, and Top Speed come to mind. F2 has a duratec kit every now and then. So there are options.

All that being said, I'd love a little blower for an everyday driver.

SC. i'd want the lowewr end power to get moving, not the down the line top out, or basically accel over top speed. but it all depends on what youre doing with it. all of these adders have thier own area's where they are used best.

From a reliability standpoint, a supercharger is going to blow a turbo setup out of the water. Either way we're adding forced induction a car that was never intended to have boost. A supercharger at least is going to be very linear to where your rpms are which from a tuning aspect is a world of difference.

When you're running a turbo car there are numerous points of it breaking. The wastegate opening at the right time being the big issue. When tuning our cars, the fuel map works off of load and rpms. It doesn't detect detonation with a J&S safeguard so timing never gets retarded. If a wastegate gets stuck closed, :wavingkitty: your motor. With a supercharger, your unit can only spin as fast as your crank is turning it so you run the risk of overboosting.

With a turbo, your ass dyno is going to read off the charts, you'll feel faster, but you have more potential for parts breaking that can really ruin your summer.

Nitrous is an entirely different beast. If done right, it can be very safe. A standard wet kit relies on proper installation. With 1 sprayer, it relies on air flow to properly mix the nitrous and fuel evenly across all 4 cylinders. People go direct port for a reason, even distribution across all 4 cylinders. Then throw in things like fuel cutoff, bottle pressure, etc and you have lots of room for error.

Bottom line is if you want power, you have to pay for it. A nitrous and turbo setup can be done on the cheap, but you lose reliability. A supercharger is a happy medium, a turbo is going to get you more power.

i lost a little love for you steve. i ran 32 bottles of a 100 shot or more in my car before i blew it up. mind you that was at 170k on the clock!

nitrous is safe, if you have the supporting mods. thats where everyone goes wrong. there's more to running nitrous than just buying a bare bones kit. example!

Nitrous needs:

Nitrous kit *(wet kit to be exact)
Wideband 02 (must constantly monitor!)
Spark control (spark retard, improved spark pulse to resist fouling)
Colder spark plugs
Exhaust! Nitrous+catylitic converter= BOOM backfire
Window Switch (optional. but for safety, should always be used)
Bottle pressure guages. Expensive ones, not the crappy ones. gotta be water filled Optimal pressure is not just a performance point, but a SAFETY point. you run the bottle too cold, low pressure= rich nitrous shot. if you don't have the above mods, you will backfire!

Backfires on a nitrous kit are like a boost surge! puddling liquid nitrous is a bad thing.

Here's why nitrous gets a bad wrap.

"i don't have a bottle heater or a purge" i'll get it later

said person sprays nitrous without a purge. surging occurs. causing a sputter, a rich condition (no nitrous to the engine upon activation, due to air in the feed line) but, on a wet kit, fuel is being added and puddling everywhere.

Nitrous bottle is not properly heated. 1050-1200 psi not achieved. rich nitrous shot occurs. adding to the puddles of fuel, is now puddles of nitrous.

your engine struggles to maintain, because you didnt upgrade your stock ignition system. one fateful misfire causes a backfire. your piston is now blown into pieces, or has been half dusted off the top, causing low compression for the next time you spray your nitrous kit.

oh and you backfired fuel and puddled liquid nitrous into your intake, it backfired and now your intake is on fire. did you bring a fire extinguisher? of course not, you didnt even bring a bottle heater!

nitrous is the hardest style of FI to use. NOT FOR BEGINNERS! but i can show you what it can do. i just dont wanna get banned or suspended for putting it up here :D

although I'd like to also add Nitrous is FI, there's no positive manifold pressure that's forcing anything. 8)

No one is arguing that Nitrous works but you said it yourself it's also the hardest to get working properly and safely besides the fact that you always have to keep the tank full which is not an issue with a turbo or blower, they're just there all the time.

Theres a guy in Ohio (OrangeSVT03) that was running a turbo on his stock SVT and he was putting down 360 whp reliably for a long time, he finally blew it up after damaging the pistons on the dyno testing a bigger turbo and hitting about 385 whp if I remember correctly and even then it didn't blow up until he was driving home later. I don't recall the boost he was running but for some reason the 21 psi sticks in my head as the number that killed his engine.

If there were still good new supercharger kits available that would be my first choice but there aren't which leaves the turbo.

BTW-he didn't mention it but I'm about 90% sure the Focus in question here is an SVT.

I don't care either way, I just wanted opinions based on a focus. SVT answers would be more relevant for me though. How about some pics of mnfocus members setups.

I think theres only one member with a boosted SVT and thats patalrob's Powerworks car and his is apart right now.

Otherwise if you browse around in the pics section I think you'll find more superchargers than anything, I think Pitchblack and Zurno are the only turbo cars and both are standard Zetecs. Spudo and CH435 have turboed Duratecs but their setups won't help you much.
