Well of course you do. My gaslogs are all hand calculated - not by the scangauge but by the actual miles driven by the actual gallons used though . and for the record the ScanGauge is off ...by .07% . point zero seven . I've been through the disbelief , this Focus gets great mileage! THe best modification to any car is the drivers attitude .
So know that I've post whored all over Adam's intro-thread - I'll refrain from any more posts .

my average these days are 28~35. btw, anyone ever heard of this little device or is currently using one? It seems pretty nice if what they're saying is true. One thing I noticed is that a lot of their spelling/grammar isn't really legit, but I think it's an interesting item.

As hardcore modders are to speed and astheticsthese folks are as hardcore to fuel economy . Without spending another thin dime you can increase your gas mileage 25-100 % ! It isn't as fun as buying something and bolting it on and going racing ...but after the race you can drive cheap the rest of the week .
As far as that gizmo Dreamtec ...the $170 spent on a ScanGauge will yield much better results and read/clear OBDII codes .For those that don't have a tach ...it has one .

see they didnt belive me when i said i get 41 mpg on the hwy to and from soodak. i have the svt motor and trans, and tell you what that 6 gear and its dual final drives ( twin shafts) 4.43 and 2.80 for sixth gear , is a god send.

Daily driver type stuff - wont work on the race/autoX course -ya gotta drive to win there!
1:air the tires to max sidewall minimum . What you set it too over that is your choice - I'm at 60 psi on a 44 psi sidewall.My choice.They handle the heavy rains and the dry pavement very well thank you very much . It does ride like a lumber wagon - no worse than *some* lowered suspensions though.
2:NO idling/warming the car up (includes drive thru's stop lights and signs etc) if you stop for more than 10 seconds ...key off .
3: Some cars *don't* respond to granny driving .Yeah really. A moderate acceleration say to about 1/3 or 1/2 throttle may be better for the roads you drive . I'm sayin! It works.
4: *I* do granny shift though . I keep it under 2000 to no more than 2400 rpms for all shifts, pausing slightly between gears . I know it ain't no fun but thats the way that works.
5:>> disclaimer: this is illegal in this state , make your choices and pay your nickels<<:After you reach your speed limit (whether the posted limit or your hand picked limit) neutral coast and let it coast down 10-15 mph ,re-engage and accel back up to your speed limit rinse repeat (until that asshole tailgating you/in the next lane really pisses you off) . I have a manual trans., so where an automatic is 'engine on' coasting I 'key off' coast .Even at night . Turn key one position back ,pause for a two count,key to on.This keeps lights operational. There are tons of ways to tweak driving technique ,those above work for me on the roads I drive on .I've been getting 40-45 mpg *in town* ,high 40's to low 60's on the highway fairly consistantly. You might not get 60 or 50 , but i bet you'll love low to mid 40's .
Of course all the usual maintainance stuff is necessary , you will not achieve decent fuel economy with a horse shit running vehicle.
Got Mods? It is an internal combustion engine -it doesn't care! Optimize your technique,it will work for economy and power.
I wish you luck in your efforts and hope that it helps stretch a few dollars when you need it most. I'm in Albert Lea -if anyone makes it down this way, look me up, we can go for a drive.
eta : Ooooh! Look ahead for stop signs/lights .If you know there is a stop try to coast to it (key on or off what ever works for the area you are in). Try to *not* stop , keep your momentum going. It really sucks knowing that from a dead stop my 60 mpg capable car only gets 6-9 mpg til I level back off at speed. I have several areas that give a 1/4 mile warning with signs and flashing lights of potential red light . I use those to gauge speed and leave the jerk that passed me 20 seconds ago sitting at the light . I smile and wave on my way past . Have fun where you can !
Oh once more !...and did I mention A/C ? I found with the ScanGauge the mpg's dropped 10-12 mpg turning the A/C on and 8-10 mpg less at cruise .If you need to use it - try to use it sparingly or pulse it on/off manually . Turn it on ,cool the car off a bit ,turn it off . I didn't use A/C all summer - actually since May . Yes a few days I was damned uncomfy . If you have passengers (especially the wife or girlfriend ) don't be a jerk ...turn the A/C on. LOL .

sounds interesting enough for me. I never knew if you turn off your car and avoid idles, you save more gas. I actually thought if u turn off/on your car often, you waste more gas than leaving your car running idle. interesting tips but idk if i'm gonna be turning my car off/on that often lol. thanks for the tips.

I'm not going to do most of those things because they are a bit ridiculous. You're going to wear out more parts in shutting your car off every 10 seconds than you can pay for with your "saved gas" I'm not trying to shoot down your methods, just saying that I'm not about to start doing that everyday. BUT I have done that before a time or two just for fun
What I would recommend is the timing of stoplights, coasting when you can with clutch in or in neutral, inflate tires to the comfortable limit 35-40psi (nothing crazy or you'll get terrible wear patterns down the middle and wasted more money on a new set of tires), and lastly slow down. You'd be amazed at how much your gas mileage can go up by going 55-60 vs 75-80. I'd agree on keeping out of the throttle and shifting before 3k rpm in every gear, not too low but not too high. That's what I do to maximize gas mileage.
