Potentially stupid question...
My friend is looking to get an 04 focus zx5. I own an 04 svt zx5. The focus he is going to buy has a cold air intake on it. It looks brand new and I wondering, would the CAI on the regular zetec fit onto my SVT, and my stocker air box onto his zetec? Please let me know, I have never looked at the motor of a regular zetec (non-SVT).

The throttle body location is different, The SVT is towards the drivers side and the Zetec is in the center.
Also depending on the CAI the MAF housing size may be different which means you can't swap them, you need the correct MAF housing for the given MAF. You can't run an SVT mass air sensor in a Zetec MAF housing.

ok, so chances are...the MAF housing on his is for the reg. zetec, where I would need a different MAF housing SVT. Basically boiling down to more work than I want, and I should just build my own CAI, so I know/hope it is right the first time.

I just didn't go so far as to say "Ask Focinite, he screwed his up royally using the wrong MAF housing"

I said the Zetec and SVT setups were not interchangeable.

Ahh, all that doesn't sound that bad...at least it would be cheaper right? Plus, black smoke actually helps you when you're racing because then you have the 007 thing going on. But seriously Mr. FORDSVTPARTS, can you sell me the stuff I need or do I need to go aftermarket?

I've done mine with pretty much all scrounged parts which made mine basicaly free, To buy the stuff I used probably wouldn't be cost effective unless you can find it used.5doorfury wrote:Ahh, all that doesn't sound that bad...at least it would be cheaper right? There are quite a few aftermarket companies selling various bends and lengths of tubing and boots to connect them. I just ordered an AEM Dryflow filter from CFM for my new setup that I'm planning.
It's an oilless clamp on cone filter so I don't need the giant Mustang filter I'm running now.
Look at the Custom CAI thread in this section and you'll see what another local guy just did.
