Yeah thats what the guy at Inver Grove Ford told me...

Do you offer a brand new shortblock or only reman then? I can snag some of these parts that are salvageable I'm sure but I will definitely need a new oil pan.

I have taurus heads that have been ported and polished and mated to the SVT intakes. Also was running SVT cams out of my 2.5

build the bottom end with high compression pistons.... so what if 110 is expensive

Lol what's the point?

I can run stock internals with a 75 shot and that will make more power than a high compression NA motor. Not to mention cheaper. If I were going to build the bottom end I would go lower compression and build it for 10+ psi turboed.

Nils, want to help me drop the 2.5L back in there?

I may go that route for the rest of the summer. I think I could have that in there by July 7th even ;)

It's a bandaid fix, but it would buy you time and money to figure out what you want to do. You know I'm there man, just let me know when you need help, unless I'm working, I'm usually a phone call away.

Also, I can talk to some people and find you a hoist. I'll make some calls.

Sweeeet, Like I said I would give them a few bucks for letting me use the hoist. Otherwise I'm checking with a few other people as well. I think I'm going to put the 2.5 in there for the summer and I'll start saving for a slightly more aggressive 3.0 build next time :twisted:

There is no such thing as a "new" long or short block from Ford, They are all reman.

That said, Ford does have an exceptionally good reman engine program.

Thanks Steve... So what kind of warranty do they put on their remans? Do they put in all new pistons, rings, and bearings? I'll keep it in mind when I'm picking up another 3L probably this fall (After I get tuition out of the way)

For now I will probably be calling you this week or next week on a whole bunch of gaskets :lol: I need to get this thing driveable again before the summer is over.

Well, The warranty could be a sticky point for you. Since it's not going where it belongs and it's going to be modded.

A shortblock has a 12-12 parts only warranty, a longblock has a 3 year 75,000 parts and labor warranty. I might be able to work around it being in the wrong car if there ever was an issue. Maybe.

Okay Steve. I will let you know when I decide on the block, I may not actually be worried about the warranty anyhow at this point I was just curious. I'm still exploring my options :) I was stripping parts off the motor today so I can get ready to pull it out and I found the bottom half of the connecting rod (hanging from the intermediate shaft) Pics!

You can see a good size gouge in this one toward the top left. You can also see where it broke off the connecting rod.

Hows the rod journal look? I would bet the rod bearing seized and thats what cause the catastrophic failure.

I had the same thing happen in one of my old big block Buicks, Not pretty.

By rod journal you mean where it contacts the crankshaft? That actually looks alright (from what I could see trying to fit under the car). I still haven't taken the pan off, have to wait until after my brother's graduation party this weekend to start getting things dirty :)

I was trying to think of what could have happened, The rod bearings are super messed up but I don't know that was the problem necessarily. Could it have been the wrist pin in that piston?
