First of all WHO GIVES A FUCKING SHIT!!!!! I've had the oportunity to drive an SPI, a Zetec as well as a 2.0 Duratec.
With the SPI I got about 32 - 35 driving back and forth to work from Ramsey to Bloomington/South Minneapolis.
With the Zetech I have now I get about 27 - 30mpg on the same commute.
With the Duratec I rented last summer down in Mississippi, I was getting around 33 - 34mpg all hwy granted it was also an autotragic.
Either way, I HIGHLY dought your getting 40+mpg its possible if you looly gag it and say under 60mph, but with our cars, the way the gearing is, if you go above 60mph all this MPG thing goes out the door. Our cars are geared to be most effient within 50mph to 60mph. So if your on 94 or whatever going 75+ there is NO FUCKING way in hell your getting that kind of millage.
With that said, remeber we were arguing about if that Waldusch car had an SPI in it, well from those pictures we can now confirm its a Zetec, but either way its still a shitty car.

ok maybe im just dumb but what is the SPI engine??
The SPI is the Root of what the focus is. at its roots is the Escort, single over head cam 8v engine. SPI stands for split port injection. the intake has dual runners, and a flap that opens up at 3500rpm, gives you a great "butt dyno" feeling.
SPI started out in the UK in many RS escorts as a 1.6l turbo'd engine, then graduated to the 1.9l then eventually to the 2.0l.
its a fun engine, with lots of history, makes some MAD torque (just ask Jeffescortlx) just the valve train doesn't hold up in the high end like a Zetec can.
Honestly its not a bad engine at all, hell you could say they are a diamond in the rough, they've been around years before the Zetec, and ran great.
So don't listen to Nils, its not a bad engine at all.
/end history lesson
