I kind of doubt it. The focus market is slowing real fast. Things like the FR500 where built to show fords power in the aftermarket world and what could be built. Now they market the focus as an ecconomy car. There will be a focus hybrid in the next year or so.

I still want to know if anyone has tried my idea of using the front and rear sub-frames from an escape and making an awd that way. I heard of one kid on FJ that wanted to try it. I still say it will work. We have plenty of room.

exactly, Focus Central saw how the focus market was doing and they dropped ship. Now all Focus Central (now under a differnt name) all they do is Mazda3 performance parts.

i think people have actually determined that it would work, but the escape AWD is only on when the front wheels are slipping. Nobody wants to go to all the trouble for a part time AWD

Um pretty much any AWD setup is that way. The Mazdaspeed6 AWD is that way. the Subaru's are made that way. Also its not part time AWD is like 70/30 type AWD.

Ok, I have been a 4x4 lover my whole life. AWD is just that, All wheel Drive, part of the time. If you want a 4wd or 4x4, you have to mechanically or electronicly shift from 2WD to 4WD. And technically, if you don't have lockers, 4WD is not a true four wheel Drive either!

imagine that, the focus is an economy car (did anyone ever think any differently?)

and the escape idea seems like a waste of time, too much work, and all you would get is an escape that looks like a focus

I would think a person would be best off trying to get an X-type driveline into a focus, but I am not sure how wide those are

The point I was trying to make with the escape drive line was that as far as I have measured up it is almost a bolt in ordeal. You'd have to find a spot to put a fuel cell though.

the escape and focus share the same bolt pattern for the rear sub frame... as a asset student i pondered the possibility of the mod and if one had the time it could be done .... need custom axles and a adapter, i dont think the awd trans bolts to the ztec, but the 3.0 dohc and the 2.5 have the same block soooooooo well a 2.5 awd is very plauseable.

RWD FTW!

I am tired of the AWD leg humpers that never owned or driven one, the escape is a FWD shit box, you hit some ice, and its just like a focus, it slips, and last moment the rear kicks in(ok so the focus doesn't have the rear wheels). They also ride and drive just like a focus, they do not handle like a focus, and those tires do howl.

RWD FTW, when I start to slip, I will grab this other knob and pull it back and BOOM 4x4 locked and loaded 8)

it is a focus platform!!!! and the part time awd is a program it can be rewritten to ingage all the time, and it has a 4x4 funtion so it wont hurt it..... on paper it works for the focus.... if i had the time and parts i know i could have it done in about 6months i took measure ments and the rear sub frame bolt hole are the same , the front mounts are also the same, the hole in the rear disk brake arms is the perfict size for the axles and the axles spline to the hubs of the focus. must make some room for a motor and trans fit but it would work.

The escape has a 5 lug pattern too, don't it?

If I had more monies, I'd buy a salvaged escape and move it all over to a focus. With some porting work, and a whipple....

Full time AWD would kill milage though. I wonder if its like a DSM where it can be welded so only the rear wheels work? Search google vids, you could prob find that rwd 1g dsm :o

why not buy a repairable Escape hybrid AWD, then you don't have to worry about economy :D I almost bought one and regret it every day :x
