I got the car for free, yes, free. The car has been sitting for a few years so it has a hard time running. I have new oil/coolant/transfluid/filter/gas going into it. I am going to put the interior back together today, and, pull off the brown(they where chrome) door ding strips. The guy that had it had to get rid of it as he was moving and didn't have time/money for it. I still have some of my mn12 parts around from my mn12 days.

The interior is taken apart from stereo extraction and has a few fast food boxes in it. The sat in a garage since it was parked, there are a few dents/dings in it, the part behind the driver's door is the worst of it. He said he thinks there is somethin wrong with the drive line, so, I am changing out all the olf fluids and putting fresh in and I am going to take it from there...

Depending on what is wrong with it(the car/trans), and, what is required to do so, I think it is going to get a v8 swap, build up the trans with shift kit, aode/4r7ow gear set, torque converter, and some gears out back. Don't hold me to that yet. I got shit I need to do with the focus first...which I will tell you guys about next week;)

Thoughts?

And a HUGE thanks to focinite for hookin' a brother up with his buddy that needs to get rid of a car;)

CHrist he had it sitting in a garage for 2 years I think he said.

I am pulling the motor on it soon I think. He said something about having the motor machined, I didn't really talk to him much about it, I went to change the oil and it was goopy and chunky, I have a funnel with a strainer in it that I use to dump waste oil into my 5 gal jug with, and, it plugged the screen, I don't know if sawdust got into the pan(the drain oil pan I used to catch the oil) or if it was shit from the motor, but, the funnel is plugged. The oil that was in there was really dark, and, old.

The plugs I replaced where all pitch black like they where burning oil but I figure the plugs are fouled from the old gas.

the 2 plugs on the pass side, I belive, cylinder 1 and 2, where brownish like they may have been burning some coolant, car puffs white smoke.

The cap that was in there was cracked, and, one of the electrodes on a cap tower was turned 180 degrees, so, the flat part that the rotor swings by, was facing out, which explained the missfire and rough idle.

I didn't replace the wires, should have, they look toasted. The car bogs down really bad like a BHG, sounds like its coming from the pass side, only toher things I can think it could be is plugged injector or cat.

I figure I got the tools to do so, so, I am going to pull the motor and pull the pan, if the rods are all tight, no shavings, clean oil pickup, I will flip it back over and pull the heads and see what the cylinder walls look like, I should also be able to inspect the gaskets for signs of failure.

If all looks OK, it might change the direction I am going to go with this car.

Gimping it around the block, the trans shifted very smooth. The trans fluid needs to be replaced yet, I have a filter here for it, I am pulling the rad to pressure wash it at the car wash since its full of seeds like he drove in a ditch.

I popped out some of that dent on the driver's side and pulled the door ding strip and removed the adheasive. Some spots I got a bit too happy with a razor blade but, the car was free.

The car also needs some brake work, parking brake is toast, and, I think a new ball joint up front. Rocker panels are gone, interior is in great shape, no major stains/tears, no nasty odors. Rear sway bar is toast, rear suspension seemed fairly tight yet.

The whole car, in and out, when I got it, stock, unmolested, the way I like to find these birds, stock air box, stock exhaust. Some parts are really rusty or non-existant from the rust, but, I think it should hold solid for what I need to do.

I figure if I get ambitious, I should get the motor out late friday or saturday, I need to drain the trans first....

Rob,

AOD to the rad, the upper line for the in rad trans cooler is the output right?

I take it the car has a 3.8 in it?

They are junk, odds are it has or has had a blown head gasket and the engine received internal damage. More than likely badly scored cylinders which would explain the plug fouling.

One other issue when the head gaskets go is severe overheating which can partially explain the sludge and poor running.

Like they used to say on Seinfeld- Good luck with all that!
Tasca Auto Group- Employee pricing on all parts.

Yeah these motors are hit or miss. I have to pull the motor anyways for what I might do next anyways so I might as well look inside of it;)

This would be the 2nd 3.8 with BHG's, the others where fine...

Well, I scored some of my old parts from my brother that he got in a steal, er, deal, when I sold him my old 302 bird...

I am getting the stock 8.8" iron pumpkin, the 3.73's from the frpp pumkin, and the v8 axles. He wants to gimme the open diff but I told him to pitch it.

Now, I need to get a t-loc carrier, clutch kit for it, friction modifier, bearings, and, find someone that knows how to set gears propely and rebuilt the t-loc rear...I will prob post on TCS Stangs after I get the parts, I am sure one of them guys knows someone good with gears and trac-loks...

After I get my hands on a carrier I will have to call and pester steve for some parts ;)
IMINHELL

Hey Scott I just figured I'd throw you an option. A buddy of mine has a 351W he wants to get rid of. He wants $275 for it. Came out of an older van, which means the motor mounts are different. You'd need the 302 drop mounts to put it in the bird (maybe the v6 mounts bolt up I'm not sure). I know you don't want to keep that pooch of a 3.8 in there now do you?

Gimme details on that 351w via PM, like, milage and how long its been sitting. I know I need tbird v8 mounts, but I was thinking I would fab 'em up

What year was the van?

If I wait a bit, my brother is going to buy a 302 gt-40 crate so I could get his old 302 for nil, but, the motor is tired, very tired...

Actaully, I decided not to go t-lok, going straight locker. With the power of either motor I choose, a t-lok isn't going to hold up to jack shit. My brother has already gone thru a set of clutches, fuck clutches. I got a focus if I want to turn. I just wanna make a straight line missle 8)
