There is a kid I have been hanging out with on weekends from Brainerd that has a badass SRT-4. It ran a 12.6 at BIR earlier this year and now he has an Expresso with a 20G in it . It's still a neon, but god damn are they quick. The only down fall I see is that they don't handle for shit, all that tq on hand and when the front end starts to push you cannot get on it, you have to let off .
If you get one you have to lower it though. Stock they sit way to high. A Eibach kit makes it sit pretty flat.
With the Tein coil overs, they handle on fin rails. $1k, but then they will handle like all the cars with the same whp numbers do. And you are still over 10k cheaper.
ive drivin the old(first gen srt-4) and new(2nd gen srt-4) the 2nd gen has a little more power. both the cars were bone stock, i hate to say it but i was not impressed by it a hole lot. i did feel that people dont really know what a fast car feels like. tell ya the truth sitting shoty in zurnos car felt alot more tourqy. id stay away from them, some poeple iv talked to say the have issuses with after market clutches, the turbos runnin to hot, axle problems. id start looking at used camaros and gtos a mildy built ls1 is very hard to beat. shit evan a truck wiff a 5.3 in it can see a 40 50 horse gain from a cam and a tune!! but hay if ya want the 2nd fastest car in dodges line up( dont say much for viper ) go get one, they look like moon buggies to me, i personaly will stay as far away from mopars(my truck is the only exeption) i hate working on them i hate looking at them, mopar has not built a reliable vehical in about 35 years!

The stereotype now is that STR-4 owners are jackasses and most of them want to race all the time. I like the car, but just please don't be like "that."
Oh uhh... where's your JRSC and kaminari lip going?
thanks for the input guys. i haven't decided yet whether i'm going with srt-4 or focus. i'm just exploring my options at this point unless there is a deal on srt4 then it might be a different story.

Is it just me or does that seem like an odd toss-up for cars, srt vs focus. Well if one is after hp and speed there is no question that the srt wins over anything even close to that price range. You could take the money you save from buying a focus and buy performance for it (where are you coming up with the extra money?), but I'd have to say the srt is still going to walk you. On a cost per return basis starting with something fast is always going to get you ahead faster. For instance with the srt you can buy the mopar performance package ( http://www.mopartsracing.com/parts/neon.html ) and for ~$500 you can be side by side with LS1's, add a mbc and set it to 18 psi and you just passed the LS1. With GOOD tires that puts you in the 13's. Honestly there is no way that can be beat.
hell yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! id own one if i never had to work on it.... all junklers are made of cheap metal and i think dyhmler is the kfc of car builders... they have a secret recipe for making junk cars that they aint sharing....... there is no love for any mope!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and plus how long is a booset neon gonna last????
Well, it comes with a factory warranty, right? and I believe you can get an extended warranty for it; so . . . if you don't like working on it then just leave it stock and let the Dodge techs do the work. Seems pretty easy to me.
Things only break when you don't know what you are doing. For instance running 18psi on 87 with an air temp of 90 degrees will break parts; mainly because you are running well past the "error corection factor" of the stock electronics.
I hate neons, but I have friends who have n/a and boosted versions. I have to give them credit for building a quick little sedan. For the money I'd own a srt-4 any day I could.
. . . and if things breaking or fixing things scares you, you probally should not have any tools.

John
its not that, im just tired of working on mainly mopar, it seems that every other car i work on is a dodge, chrysler,plymouth... the carra vans.. every single one of them has a/c issues and the strut mounts rust out of them, every lhs/intrepped i work on seems to fall apart when touched, most sibrings/avengers/srtatus/eclips has some sort of sub fram/suspinsion problem, every dodge truck from 84-02 has front axle problems, and dont even get me started on the wiring of any mope......... its like the black plage. id rather fix a 88 xj12(jagure) with a electical concern than spen any more time on a mopar... and if i owned(oh wait i do a 92 ram 150) id be working on it more than enjoing it( oh wait i am).
