Becuase I never heard a glass box and the general concenous is it sounds about the same, the fiberglass will be much lighter, if I don't like it, I can always ebay it and get my money I stuck into it(about 20$ and a night off to do the work).

With the sub I am going with, I need to add some fill to it per the manufacter(sp?)

lol...

In the am or pm when I get up, I will get some pics.

I matched the back of the box to match the angle of the back seat, it is a steep angle, more then I thought, I did a rough fit of the angles hot glued, but, I need to test fot the skeleton, but, its really shakey, so, I grabbed the drilla nd some 1" screws and secured it to a piece of particle board I had used for an amp hold down in my tbird(you may have seen pics?)

The box will hopefully have a small foot print, which is what I want, so, I can put groceries, or, nos in the trunk  The 2 front amps will be under the front seats and the sub amp in the rear spare tire well so there will be no amps or wires visable which would be a first for the year I have been into car audio, but, I am getting old and have other financial obligataions(kid, house, etc) so I can't swap gear like I used to(I wish I could).

Huh, I'm not even done with my new box, and I already want to make a new one.
I'm gonna use the box I have for alittle bit. But I think when I stop buying mods next year, I'll make a new box. But take out one sub. So it will be one single 12. And save the other for a rainy day....

what?!? A fiberglass box can sound every bit as good as a wood box, if not better. Fiberglass boxes can be lighter and stiffer if done right... go scotty!

ive never heard a glass box sound better than wood ...ever, to get a glass encloser anywhere as stiff as wood would require adding ..well..wood to the enclosuer making it heavy.. take a look at some serious sq winners and find out how many have a plain fiber enclosure...not many . go to a db drag the boxes there are wood, steel, concrete mix. it is possible to make a fiber glass box sound good it really only matters what you like, but im just trying to save you some hassle, ive been there done that... if you want a abnormal shape, the best way is to start with the size box needed in wood, then add shape by body filler or strech fleese and wire with glass over it, smooth it out and paint or cover as desired.... im not telling you " you suck", im just trying to share some of my knowlage from past mistakes.

Most serious SQ winners have boxes made of mostly fiberglass, but all the flat surfaces are wood. Also, in SQ its not necessairly about 'heavy' its about 'stiff', and the two don't always go hand in hand. Personally, I don't use MDF for sub boxes, because I like plywood better.

I didn't look at scottys pictures before, but thats an interesting way of going about building a box. Good luck!

Hopefully tonight I will start to glass it up. The bax will be about 1.25 cubes when done, I am going to try it to say I have done it, it was like 15$ in materials so its not a huge loss if it sounds like ass. Besides, I can't cut MDF straight for shit.

well lets see some progress pics when you get some

and as far as odd sub materials go, i'm building a HT sub almost entirely out of cardboard... 8)
