Rear Brake Replacement: No Success

I was going to replace the rear brake pads on the SVTF, and discovered that I was unable to compress the piston on the left side (the only side I tried). I did not disconnect the brake line, so I would be simply pushing the fluid back into the reservoir. I've done this successfully with other cars in the past. I do not have the Ford tool that expands inside the caliper. I use a C clamp and carefully compress between the piston and the back of the housing. But the piston didn’t want to budge. I didn’t want to get too aggressive with it.
Ideas?

Stop doing that, you could damage the caliper.

You need to compress while turning the brake piston in.

There is a small metal cube you can buy that attaches to a ratchet, which you have to push on while turning. Or the easier way is you can rent the specialty press tool from an auto parts store.

Hopefully this link works to show you the tool options....

Thanks! I (obviously) didn't know that. I'll get the correct tool for the job and take it from there.

If you dont mind scars and stabbing your self repeatedly you can use a needle nose pliers. It works in a pinch. Shortly after this exsperience i bought the toolkit from mac. Its a hand saver

^True dat.
The cube sucks.

Pliers,
I'll stab you with some if you say that again.
That's the reason the rear fender on my old SQ was beat to shit. I slipped and with full force punched the caliper/bearing. Have a bone chip floating around in my knuckle still as proof. Only good thing was it's my left.

And for future reference, as a general rule any vehicle that has rear disc brakes (and doesn't have a parking brake shoe) the piston will have to be turned into the caliper.

I don't know, sounds like you need a bigger c-clamp.

For as often as I will be working on the rear brakes (rare as hen's teeth), I hate to invest in the elaborate tool (I don't have Steve's money!). Will the 'cube' work acceptably?

It's not that expensive a kit and with the way SVTs eat rear brakes it's a good investment,
