So, I recently got the old ’92 Lexus LS400 out of storage so my son (home from college) can drive it this summer. I drove it a few times myself, and I’m bitten hard by the ‘quiet bug’. I can actually hear all of the music when driving the Lexus, as opposed to ‘I can only hear the loud passages’ in the SVT.
Okay, granted the SVT is no luxury car. I really enjoy the handling and power (JRSC+BBK). But the noise makes me tired. I guess I’m getting old (some would argue I’m already there!).

So………. What cars would you recommend that meet the following criteria?
1) Good to excellent power.
2) Decent handling.
3) QUIET.
4) Not gonna cost an arm and a leg for parts & maintenance (like Audi’s, BMW’s, Mercedes, and other European cars).
5) Preferably has a timing chain (not a belt).

Pappy nailed it, the new Mustangs are fantastic cars, decent price, good power, not loud unless you mess with the exhaust, great ride and handling and they're damn near bulletproof unless you really treat them badly.

They don't look bad either. 8)

Even Pappys antique 2009 model is a fantastic car, a used Mustang is a great value.

This is going to suck, Jim is going to put his SVT on the market and I won't be able to afford it. :(

How cool would it be if I could buy Jims and then pass mine on to my son, matching silver SVTs :) except dads would be faster. 8)

I would not overlook the V6 Mustang either. Lower priced and still very quick for a 6.
Slower than your stock focus.

Oh yeah, I should have mentioned that I'm probably leaning toward used, in the $20k or less category.

2008 or newer Nissan Altima coupe with the 3.5L V6 and the CVT transmission. My fiance had a coupe and traded it for a sedan, the coupe was much better handling. Either way, it handily beats a SVT (probably even a supercharged one) from 0-60. For reference, a stock SVT goes 0-60 in about 7.4 seconds, where the Altima does it in a bit under 6.4.

Actually with the exhaust I know of a 5.0 that has the Borla ATACK cat back and under idle and cruising speed you can't here it untill you get on it then it sounds like a pack of wolfs undertaking and heard of deer like it wants to eat you alive. 8)

These aren't far off the mark and I might be able to get you to a good salesperson, if you don't like those I'm sure there are plenty in the area in that price range and they really are solid cars.

I think the handling would surprise you as well, I know Pappys car surprised me when I drove it.

BTW- That 2011 V6, that's a 300 hp V6. 8)

2wd so it's not a "truck", right? 4.0 like a mustang, but way more versatile. Lowered slightly, with some nice rims and tires, would be slick (in my opinion).

Ugh, a truck. Thanks, but no thanks.:( How do I feel about trucks? I have absolutely no use/desire for one. Zero. Zip. Nada. Not even a Lightning or Raptor. I'm sure they're great vehicles and all - if you like trucks.
