Since I first owned this car the oil level after a ‘proper’ oil change has always been (approx. 1/8” - 3/16”) above the full mark. This car is a PIT(neck) to change the filter without a hoist, so here is how I do it:
1) Jack up the passenger side of the car (yes, I also use jack stands).
2) Remove oil filter and install a new filter (same results with the original Ford filter & WIX equivalent).
3) Lower the car to its normal stance (on the garage floor).
4) Drain the pan.
5) Open the oil cap to facilitate draining and let it drain about 15 minutes or so.
I then CAREFULLY add 4½ quarts of Mobil 1 5W-30 oil – no more, no less. In the few times that I have had the dealer change the oil, I get the same results.
I always check the oil after the car has set (in a level garage) overnight.
Okay, so I am doing everything right , and I can accept that the oil level might read a bit high on the dipstick. But how about this: The oil level actually goes UP between changes (4000 miles)! Now, before you have suggestions re: coolant leaks and such, consider this: I have a lab perform oil analysis (Blackstone Labs), and there is zero coolant in my oil. No fuel either. Pretty weird, huh?

Thanks, Steve. That was a REALLY helpful response! Maybe I should hook up with one of those guys who claims to have invented the 200 MPG car. Wow! Think about it! A car that gets phenomenal gas mileage AND produces oil. How good is that!FORDSVTPARTS wrote:Sell the excess oil the car produces to make a few spare bucks.

To be honest I never check my oil, my driveway is a hill so the car is never level.
I change it every 3000 miles and I always get a full pan of oil out of it.

Anyone that drives an SVT has to be a little off kilter, we all know that.oldoutboardjim wrote:I think it isn't just your driveway that's a little off-kilter!FORDSVTPARTS wrote:To be honest I never check my oil, my driveway is a hill so the car is never level.

If you look again it does say 4.25L and then next to that it says 4.5 qts.oldoutboardjim wrote:Uh, where did you get the "4.25 quart" thing? The manual says 4.5 quarts.hermitmaster wrote:I buy 5 qt. jugs and eyeball 4.25 quarts and then top it off as needed.
So yes, it takes 4.5 quarts but if a person wasn't paying attention real closely they might just read the 4.25 liter bit.

You punks are too young to know this, but early VW Beetles did not have gas gauges. Long ago in a galaxy far away when I worked at Hamms Brewery, there was a guy with a Beetle who constantly bragged about the good gas mileage he got. His co-workers decided to mess with his head. They would alternately siphon out gas, or add gas. The guy's 'mileage' went from awful to exceptional and back to awful. I don't know if the Beetle guy ever figured out what happened!focinite wrote:oh i got it, the damm neighbor kid is comming over and filling your car with oil!!!! that lil sum bitch!!!!! ill tan his hide!!!!!
I'm pretty sure all of those guys are dead now, so I can't blame them.

I eyeball 4.25 out of a 5 quart jug so I don't overfill. Then I run it for a few minutes, check the level, and top it off as needed.oldoutboardjim wrote:Uh, where did you get the "4.25 quart" thing?
