Normal shop charge to put in a limited slip?

Non Focus discussion. Pretty much other cars and off topic stuff.

As much fun (not) as I had with my clutch install, I was wondering what the average cost of doing the swap would be?

warranty time is around 8 hours to remove, teardown and replace differential. non-warranty add about 1.5 to 2 hours and multiply that times shop rate. shop rate at my dealership is 129.95.......so you woud probably be looking between 1000 and 1200 to install it.

The time to do the diff would have been when the trans was out, then it would only have been a couple hours labor.

You could take out the tranny and take it in to a tranny shop to have them do the differential swap.

Look up Vince Lutz (Lutz Automotive) up in Hugo. I'm not sure if he's comfortable doing an LSD install, but his labor rates are extremely reasonable. When I did my clutch, I think it was $450 in labor.

Just plan on waiting a while, he's usually booked for a couple weeks out.

I'll do the LSD install if you bring it to me out of the car. It takes about 30 mins if your really in a hurry. It's that simple.

What LSD are you grabbing? How much is it. It's about the next step for me too after a tune if I plan to keep the car.

The LSD is the easy part of the job. That takes about 20min to crack open tranny take out old diff and drop LSD in and close her back up. It is the time to take the tranny out and put back in that is so time consumiong and frusterating.

I did my LSD in a day....even if the tranny caused me issues. :)

Miller, an engine hoist makes getting the trans in/out much much easier.

Aren't there special measurements and shimming that need to be done?

Here is a "how to" that I watched before I did it. It has some good info and give a good idea of what it takes to do a lsd install.
