I have a friend with a 2001 Focus wagon, and the automatic locking feature is driving her nuts. There is nothing in the owner's manual about disabling this feature. I tried the method described in my 2004 manual, but that didn't work.
Is there some method to turn-off this feature?

Believe there is only a disable per session. When it locks you manually push the lock open twice (it'll relock) and it should stay unlocked, that door only.
Other than that I'm not sure.

Found this. Not sure if it is the same as the one you tried.

That's the procedure for my 2004, but it doesn't work on the 2001. Must be a different protocol.

Crap. I thought it might be the same one but was hoping it wasn't. Not sure if Steve can dig up anything or not. I'll check my 02 manual and see if it is different tomorrow and let you know.

The GEM box is different from 00-early02 compared to later02 thru 04. Might be why its different...
