I NEED to lower my 2001 zx3 down, its way to tall and top heavy for dirt-circle track racing, i already rolled it over on my first race. Any way im looking for a reasonable cheap way to lower it and also stiffen it up, im not worried about tire clearance, because i can cut or bend out the fenders/quarters.
I also want to get the wheels/tires tipped in on the passengers side and slightly out on the drivers side.
Anybody have any used parts also let me know.
I need opinion on lowering

You could cut your springs, mybe do 1 coil.
SVT suspension also, heavier swaybars.
I know there are some guys on here that have their stock SVT suspension laying around.

An SVT will sit a half an inch lower than stock but the handling is much better than the stock.
Cutting one coil I am very unsure at how much it would lower it.
Does your focus have any sway bars in it?

I've got stock SVT stuff lying around, but it's got about 95k on it.
If nothing else, the springs are still good.

my car has both stock front and rear sway bars.hafftrak wrote:What are the rules in your class? Can you use aftermarket stuff, or does it have to be factory?
The suspension is soppost to be stock, but they dont enforce it, and i dont care anyways.
This is from FJ. You can compare spring rates a figure out what you want from there. Most of these would also require shocks/struts to handle them.

I'm up in White Bear Lake, complete front struts and rear shocks/springs. Should be a bolt on and run sort of thing.ZX3_HORNET_RACER wrote:what do you have? complete struts, shocks/springs? and how much? where are you located?tgnorman wrote:I've got stock SVT stuff lying around, but it's got about 95k on it.

If you can pick the stuff up, it's free, but I'd run it a reasonable distance for a few bucks.

you SHOULD check the rules. i know you say you don't care and that they don't enforce. but they might get stricter, it happened to me. i think in most rules going to a higher performance stock part (zx3 - svt) is considered an UPGRADE even though the upgrade is stock on another car. BUT, "upgrading" to an aftermarket part (zx3 - Tein) is considered just a replacement
A friend asked me if I wanted a frozen banana, I said "No, but I want a regular banana later, so Yeah."

Honestly no one in his class follows the rules to a T.
I cut my stock front springs (minus 1 coil at the top) and it lowered the front a bit over an inch, also made the front stiffer.
Springs front and rear are linear, meaning that if you cut the spring rate will go up (be stiffer).
If you want a bit of lean in the suspension just cut a bit more off one side vs the other. All you have to do is split the difference you want to cut between the top and bottom of the coil. This has to be done to keep the tangs on the stops.
