Mechanical -> Electric fan conversion, worth it?

The one thing I really dislike about my truck is that stupid engine driven fan. I wish they would have come factory with electric fans, but as far as I know they did not. I hate that you can hear the howling of the fan when the truck is going down the road over any other engine noise (I realize this might seem like a silly pet peeve).

I was digging around and found this kit. While I'm sure it could be done for less than $425, it seems like this is a pretty complete kit that has everything one would need to make it perform like a stock setup. I don't know that it would really add the 15-20whp they are claiming, but I do think it would make a noticeable difference in throttle response and overall pep.

Anybody else have experience/comments on an electric fan conversion? The only real con I can think of (other than having to buy/install it) is that it would probably be slightly less reliable then the factory setup. Pro's include; quieter (big one), hp gains, and prettier engine bay :)

More links for me to reference later

It's a truck.

If you want a prettier engine bay buy a supercharger for it.

That said, Mustangs only use electric fans to cool the same or more engine so it should be fine if you want to go that route.

Prettier engine bay was at the bottom of the priority list. I just really don't like mechanical fans :P

I see the Freestar came with e-fans and that's the same motor... do you think the radiators are the same size?

No clue to be honest, the trucks tend to have larger radiators simply due to the payload and towing capacities.

Just turn the radio up.

What year truck are we talking about here?
I've got a Modine Radiator book I can look up the specs in (goes to '04).

Your core is 23-5/8"L x 30-3/16"H

The Taurus core is 24"L x 14-1/4"H

So it's pretty damn close. Might actually be able to stack 2 of them.
