intake problems

Alright, so I'm not a new user....i just forgot my login info and recently changed emails.... here's the deal about 3 months ago i started having a clunking every time i would turn my SVT off, thought nothing of it, i then got interested in it and popped the hood open had someone else turn the car off and heard it was coming from the intake mani. now i ended up having the well known coolant leak from the housing got that done and looked again at the intake (now is NOT making any clunking for the past 3 or so weeks) noticed that i had to "force" the DSI lever down and there's the same clunk that i heard.

Now I have changed the DSI lever with the CFM one when I first got the car back about 2 years ago.

Anyone else have or had a problem like this? If so please, do tell...or if you might have input let it be heard!!

Could the DSI be shot? could have broken inside and be blocking the air from getting in completely... HRW might have a better idear, or Pat.

Cat gutted you say? I just picked up a new orp, and ill sell you my old one for cheap. Has a shitty weld job on it from trying to remount the front o2 bung, but will be better than a gutted cat.

Any way you can swing by Tousley with the car? I can check the codes with my Predator and we can take a quick look at what your car is doing.

Tousley parts depot, I'm there from 8:00-4:45 Mon-Fri, ask for Steve.

If the whole DSI intake is bad I do have one laying here.

I've never seen an intake fail other than the ultra rare backfire explosion that blows one apart

I might be able to sometime in the near future. Im down in lakeville :(. the weird thing is, it runs the same as it did from the first day i bought it has its normal random stalling problem from time to time but nothing serious (the whole battery light super low RPM chugging thats common from what ive read around the forums)

ok, non svt owner here. but the dsi is basically butterfly valves in the mani to open up for more flow at high rpms?
so could the shaft that connects them all be broke? if i'm way off base lmk

^SVT is a big chunk of plastic that rotates,

Image

Low RPM (below ~5,500RPM) it's in the long position, DSI motor active and holding the lever towards the front of the car.
High RPM the DSI lets it flop back into the short position, DSI motor deactivates.

Pretty much if you can't see the cable move when you start the car the DSI motor is more than likely the culprit. One one of the sites, FJ or FF, there is a how-to disassemble it and maybe fix it.

Yup, way of base.

First off the car already has a CEL so if the IMRC failed he wouldn't know because the CEL is already on and if the cable is still attatched then an IMRC failure is about the only answer.

Get the codes read and see what they are, Is the car down on power in the lower RPM range?

The clunk when shutting the car off is fairly normal but it usually happens before you get out of the car so you won't normally hear it, all that is is the intake runners flipping open to the high speed runners.

When you start the car the DSI lever should rotate counterclockwise towards the front of the car which puts the intake on the low speed runners. If you rev it past 5500 or so it should release the cable and the DSI lever should rotate towards the firewall to the high speed runners.

Check that stuff out.
