Thats what I was thinking. I've seen too many news paper articles about idiots falling thru ice...driving cars onto frozen water is just waiting for a Darwin Award...

I'd be up for meeting elsewhere though...It would be a bad day for mnfocus if our cars were in the bottom of some lake.

I'm up for an ice meet. You don't do it when the ice is 8" thick. You wait till it's 24" thick. I've driven on the ice many times. Stay on the beat'n path and your fine.

Sitting on the dock in the bay wavin goodby ! I was involved with Kyle's uncles in ice racing for a while and never liked the way sometimes the weight of the cars forced water up on top of the ice ! Plus hated the cold especially the cold feet in spite of insulated boots . A lot of insurance companies today won't cover the loss if you "knowingly" take the car on an ice coved body of water . Have fun cutting doughnuts .--Bob

The majority of the people that have cars fall through the ice are on the ice too early or too late.

If you go to Lake Minnetonka they have plowed roads that stay the same from year to year because they know where the good ice is.

A few Foci on a well frozen lake in January or February will be just fine. If you're that worried then just park on shore and walk out.

focus *near* the ice just doesn't have the same appeal....

Although, White Bear Lake is super low this year, there's a good 50' of dry beach near most of the launches. Close enough for me...

So what if we meet at a lake and set up some chairs and a grille on the ice and just have an ice meet?

If you want to drive your car out you can and if not leave it on shore. All we really need is one member to bring an ice auger to verify the thickness of the ice for anyone concerned.

I'll volunteer to bring a gas grille.
