Lug Nuts Last 209,000 Miles

A month ago, my daughter called and said it felt like the front passenger wheel was going to fall off. Checked it out, and 3 wheel studs were broken off
A nice farmer came out to check out what the comotion was, and offered up his car trailer. Inched the focus on the trailer and towed it back to the shop. He wouldn't take money, but he took my last handle bottle of Captain Morgan!
Punched in some new 12 X 1.5's, ran a tap thru the lug nuts (they came out kind of rough), and called it good.
2000 miles later, I get the same phone call. She's not far from home, and limps her home. Pop the cover, and one lug nut with a broken stud falls out. Fuck!
The other 3 lugs are loose, so I'm going to tighten them up and send her on her way back to Rochester. Torque the first one to 90-95 lb. ft. and the wheel stud snaps....fuck. The other two torque up fine.
Almost sent her on her way with two lugs on the wheel.......she says something about trying to kill her.
I give her the ST, and fire up the F350 Turbo Diesel for the work commute.
Tonight, we punched in another set of 12 x 1.5's, and put the tire on with nuts that have about 50,000 miles on them. So we'll see.
Me thinks the old lug nuts just didn't have enough thread left (even with running thru the tap thru them)...they would loosen up, and the rim would bang against the stud.
There is a lesson in here somewhere
PS: This repy thing sucks 'cause you can't see what you're writing.
