Ok so I am deleting my AC on my SVT I am rebuilding. I was wondering if anyone knew if I need to reroute the belt and what size belt I will need. Thanks all!

I believe theres a bracket and pulley you need and then you run the stock size belt.

You could try PM'ing Orangesvt03 on Focaljet and see how he did it.

I found the bracket and pulley, it's an old Escort part and it'd run you $66.00.

It bolts on in place of the A/C compressor.

To get belt length run a string through the belt route and measure it.

You can't just remove it and change belts, at least orangeSVT03 couldn't get it to work that way. If I remember right he couldn't get it routed properly with the missing pulley because everything is designed to spin in one direction so when you remove one pulley it screws everything up.

If you get the bracket and pulley then you just run a stock belt and route it the same way.

None of the SVT accessories are different than the standard zetec, correct?

If that is correct and you have underdrives (of which you'll only be able to use the crank and alternator) the correct belt is a Gates # K060760.
If you do not have underdrives the correct belt will be Gates # K060775.

I can't recall if I was able to run the car W/O the underdrives but I think I did as I recall having to buy another belt when I installed them and having no A/C prior to that.

is there any real benifits from doing this? I know older cars did, but newer cars are more efficiant with the ac right?

Hell if I know. I only took mine out because I was a dumbass and over filled the system. Too much pressure and I blew a line. Damn thing never really blew that cold of air so I pulled everything out. I get more stable fuel mileage but power wise I doubt I gained anything, probably about the same as putting a larger TB on (which nets you zero HP).

Driving with the A/C on and windows up is more efficient than driving with the windows down and the A/C off.

I'd imagine the biggest gain would be simply losing the weight of the A/C system, assuming you removed every piece of it you could probably save around 50 pounds or so.

Weight=horsepower

Strip it down to bare minimum without doing anything to gain any actual horespower and the car will be a LOT faster, just not real practical.

of course there is a gain, there would be less lag. i notice the car performs better w/o the ac on. so getting ride of the a/c clutch unit deal and the weight would make an improvement. but all this is on an auto.

Right but at WOT the A/C shuts off anyways so it's not taking any of your power at that point, you only notice the A/C in normal driving because it does suck up a lot of power in normal use.

When the A/C is off the clutch freewheels liike any idler pulley does.

even though the ac shuts off at wot, the fuel trims are still wacked out and effect the perf a small amount. 8)

I don't know if it's just my car or what but I actually like the way the car runs with the A/C on, particularly at partial throttle and on the freeway.

It's like the SVT PCM really tries to bring in more power due to the A/C being on.

Now if I could just get it to run that tune without running the A/C. Hmmmmm.
