does anyone know what the weight of the fluid is. When I asked parts they couldn't find it so I'd be forced to buy the ford manual synthetic transmission fluid. Just seeing if anyone knows so I don't have to spend $18 a quart for motorcraft fluid. thanks

well I was at work (apple valley ford) today doing it and I found this right after I posted.

pretty much explains that the OEM fluid is 75w90 full synthetic. One of the guys had a few castrol bottles laying around that he just gave to me so it ended up costing me nothing.

Use the Ford honey, don't be cheap now because it can get real expensive later on.

Yes. It's a normal maintenance item just like changing your coolant.
I have used Torco MTF, RTF, and now Ford Honey. My experience is limited to the MTX-75 though, I have no idea what people use in the Getrag.

My line of thought is that if that is what they are recommending to use, use it. The gertrag parts are waaaay to hard to replace if you implode it.

Do NOT put 75w90 in a Getrag unless you want to blow it up or at the very least be totally unable to shift gears this winter.
The correct fluid is XT-M5-QS Ford full synthetic manual transmission oil.

I'm not tryin to prove you wrong or anything but I guess I just don't understand what the difference is. The link there that I posted specifally states that the XT-M5-QS fluid is a premo 75w-90. So I guess it's ok to use XT-M5-QS Ford full synthetic manual transmission but no one elses thats full synthetic and the same weight? Just curious as to if you know any major differences.

No I just misread your post, I would imagine you could run any full synthetic and get away with it.
Personally I see no need to run anything other than the OEM fluid in it.

i like the ford sp many trans fluid its great if you ever dive in the winter, it alows you to shift and use the car as you would normaly. if you go with other fluids you MAY have shift issues.

yeah I think I might switch to that royal purple synchromax for winter. a little lighter sounds better to me. I've had the fluid in for about a week and it feels very close as it did to when I first got the car but I think a little lighter would be more enjoyable.
