So teh wagon has decided it won't idle in drive. If I shift to neutral coming to a stop, no problem. Leave it i drive, come to a stop, deadsville.
No cel. My battery is the original...going on 6yrs. Car starts right up though, no battery strain. At least I can drive it. lol
Thoughts on idle problem

Wouldn't these throw a cel? Could I rule out the TPS as the engine idles fine in park or neutral ?FORDSVTPARTS wrote:IAC or TPS.

id go DPFE i have had them go bad and not throw a code. also the egr could be an issue. or you may have a code but it hasnt hard set yet. or your pcm is all geeked out and is confused.
wink wink.....bitches

Any luck figuring it out?
DPFE?
I would expect the TPS to throw a code, but with the IAC the computer might think you just shut the car off and therefore not throw a code

IAC and TPS can act funny without throwing a CEL, Focinite could be right though. He does get paid to work on these things.

Yeah, tps won't throw a code unless it gets the car idling at 3000+ rpms....Ask me how I know that.

dynamic pressure ....sumtin yadda yaddda. its the do hicky that tells the pcm the egr is doing its job. they get moisture in them an short and if they stick the egr open then the fuel trims go lean and the car will kill. they are known for ruff idles and some misfires also they can cause all sorts of odd, i mean crazy ive never seen this happen odd, things.closetfordfan wrote:Any luck figuring it out?

and I imagine the alternator is doing all it can to sustain the voltage required to keep the car idling.HotRodWagon wrote:My battery is the original...going on 6yrs.
DVOM it at idle and watch it for a good minute or so. Anything less than 13.6 or abouts and you will have severe idle issues, 13.2 and the car will die (least mine will).
I'd say clean your grounds and connections and plan on replacing the battery and IACM before the snow flies (the windings in the IACM get weak over time and loose the magnetic pull required to move the piston effectively).
