You wouldn't see a difference between hand waxing and a professional orbital "polisher". It's just faster. I manager a Mister Car Wash, so take my word for it. If you meant a high speed buffer, please leave that to a professional. Don't take any offense to that. If you haven't used one, you need to watch someone do it a couple of times (if not 4-5) before you take over. You can burn right through your paint in a matter of seconds.

What mister car wash are you a manager for?
It depends what you are using the polisher for. If you are using scratch/swirl remover, polish, or glaze there is no way you can get the same results as a nice orbital like the porter cable, with just using your hand.
But just applying a simple wax, its about the same. You use more wax with a orbital, but it is faster.
