I've heard good things about these types of setups for the GTO and vette crowd... but what's the point here? we have space under the hood, why hurt efficiency by running out back?

I was thinking about doing this with my escort a while back. its a really good Idea. It keeps the heat soak down under the hood, and even though it comes with one, ditch the intercooler, because it will just make more turbo lag. the air lines are going from the front to the rear you have PLENTY of cooling time before they got to the front of the vehicle where it goes into the mani.

If we've lived down south or in a state that doesn't get snow and salt, then I'd say go for it, but the damn thing would be shot after one winter in Minnesota/Wisconsin.

i agree, with stils and umi. the setup you are lookin at is great!!, this guy has the whole kit( fuel, oil, pipe, fuel control) i think though if you could fab up some sort of sheild to protect it from salt and crap it would work great. plus stils is right, fuck the cooler, you have in eseince a 5 foot intercooler. and your worries about efficiency, it acctually is better running it this way. i may contact him myself!!!

Some things on his posting don't make sense to me. First he is running the D20 with 7 lbs of boost (best as I can tell) and he is claiming 227 whp? Compared to actual dynos for the FS turbo set up on a D23 with 8 lbs of boost making less. Hmmm
Also, what is he running for engine management? Maybe I missed it but what is his tune coming from? I didn't see a flasher listed to control the ECU.
Lastly, I still think you would need to run an intercooler for best results. Reason; just because you have 5' of 3" pipe or what ever size, the hot compressed (compressing the air heats it) air will still be traveling at a good rate of speed thanks to the turbo, then crammed right in the engine still hot. Yes, a longer pipe leading to the intake mani will offer some degree of cooling, but IMO not any to speak of compared to a dedicated FMIC.
Just a thought.

i have to agree with 19-Delta, the guys states "Nohting else done" that's a load of BS that i can't believe. No tune and boost=blown engine, i have experience in this matter.

Slower than your stock focus.

thats a big turbo to mount that far away from the engine. i know people are saying rear mounts spool just as fast but i dont know!
