I tell ya, when I dropped it on the tires for the first time in a year all I could think was this line from Cheech and Chong "Up in Smoke" (my favorite movie of all time btw)

The scene when Chong comes out of the apartment with the baggie of powder and the jar of liquid is possibly the funniest thing I've ever seen.

Yeah, well the last time I saw either of them "I" was still smokin so I'm frankly surprised I even remember anything about those movies.

Well my wheel bearings are making all sorts of noise. Sounds like my right rear. If anyone remembers I replaced all my bearings when my tranny started making noise last year. Seems that sitting on the rear wheels all this time may have flat spotted the bearings and is causing a problem now. At least that only takes 10 minutes to fix. dag gummit! I did drive it to work today though.

I put my car up in the air and did the old spin check of the rear wheels, no grinds. No noise at all.

I took it for a spin just now and the constant groaning has stopped, not it is a constant clicking. It gets worse when i turn right. I can feel it through the gas pedal, but it doesn't get worse when i brake.

Advice? Questions? I need to get this thing on the road so I can sell off my firebird.

CV joint? Jack up the front and listen to the CV joints while you spin the wheels. You can have somoeone turn the steerig wheel while you do it also.

Steve, that is what i was thinking too. Although the current CV joints only have about 35K on them. Any idea on which side if I am turning right. I am tired of dealing with these little BS stuff. I want to drive my car!!!!!

I was thinking the passenger side, or should I do both and be done with it?

Just see which ones making noise, could be either side.

I would also suspect the CV shafts. Maybe something happened to them while you were removing/installing them with the tranny rebuild.

So today i was sitting around trying to find a way to out "old man" Chalon after his license plate issue. Not able to think of anything I gave up and headed out to swap out the passenger side axle on the Focus. Gravy. Pop it out, pop in the new one take it for a spin. It was clunking still and making some weird noises when I was going really slow from the drivers side. I figure hey, I have the jack some jack stands, lets pull the wheel off and have us a look see.

I get it in the air, get my impact wrench to spin the lug nuts off and realize only one of the lug nuts is remotely tight. I turn the impact wrench to the lowest setting spin the lug nuts on, lower the car, Pull the torque wrench over to the drivers side of the car and proceed to tighten them all.

Yeah, that's right, the driver's side wheel had not been torqued down properly. The passenger side had been before (the new axle make s huge difference too). I put about 300 miles on the car like this. I consider myself very lucky and will be purchasing a lottery ticket for Saturday. There is still a bearing somewhere making some noise, but not nearly the droning as before.

I have a harder time laughing about this since I could have been upside down in a ditch, but it is funny looking back at it. What a dumbass!!

Ah yes, the loose wheel nuts. I've had that happen to me too
