My brother-in-law is looking at a 150K mile 1998 Ford Escort ZX2 automatic. He didn't give me any other info. He was wondering
what are the typical problems and how long do they last. I realize there is little to go on, but if you know any relevant information, please add it here. Thanks!

Well they are about the closet thing to a focus, since the ZX3 took its spot. So it sould be a prett decent car other other than your rotine matince. I had one at one time I liked it then but I look at the interior of them now and they just look cheap... Doesn't mean its a bad car though;)

they are decent little cars, but the interior is not as nice as a focus interior. The automatic doesn't always hold up to teenager abuse, but adult driven it may be fine. (no, mine wasn't an auto, but the diffeeential in the manual doesn't hold up to teenager abuse well either.)
I had a 2003 that my kid drove for about 3 years. I never had an issue with the car but it didn't feel solid like the focus. When my kid had the choice of continuing to drive the ZX2 or switching to my 01 ZX3 he chose the ZX3. I sold the ZX2 about a year later. Nice looking car just seemed cheap compared to the Focus.
