Contour SVT and Focus SVT front brake questions.

Non Focus discussion. Pretty much other cars and off topic stuff.

Hi guys, I am in Minneapolis and I have an escort cosworth. I removed the aftermarket 6 piston front brakes from it and I need to put some stock brakes back on it for awhile.

Supposedly, the '98-early'99 Contour SVT calipers and rotors are exactly the same as the cosworths. In mid '99 the Contour SVT changed the front brakes and are no longer the same.

So my questions are, does anyone have some stock '98-mid '99 contour SVT rotors and calipers I could either buy or borrow for mock up?

What are the common front brake upgrades for the Contour SVT? If they are the same brakes, upgrades on the Contour SVT will fit my Cosworth. I have heard the Focus SVT brakes can be made to fit. Anyone know anything about that?

Thanks!
-Chad

The Focus SVT brakes can be fitted to a Contour SVT with the right tweaking. I believe it was shimming the caliper mounting bracket? I have a terrible memory, but I'm sure you could find the answer on http://contour.org/ceg-vb

The calipers you're referring to are from the "E0" brake setup, you might be able to find some on the forum I posted above.

On my Contour I have Focus SVT rotors in front with the stock E1 calipers (not the ones you want apparently) relocated to allow the bigger rotors. It's not quite as good as the Focus SVT kit, but it works :) I also have the stock Contour SVT front rotors in the rear with the stock rear calipers also via relocation bracket.

Ok, the only thing I am concerned about with running focus SVT brakes is the rotor spacing with the tie rod (which is in a different location than the focus or contour even though the caliper mounting and spacing is the same). Does anyone have an old focus svt 300mm rotor laying around I could get from you?

Thanks,
Chad

Man, it looks like people I know from elsewhere are just flocking to this forum.

I know it's a bit off topic, but do you want that XR4x4 rear brake setup I've got? I'd imagine at least the hub flanges are the same as what's on the Escos.

Hey Harold,

Yea, depending on what you want for them, i'd be interested. I unfortunately won't be making it to Tim's on Saturday but PM me info.
