It's not a euro thing. You can see this style setup on more then euro cars. ESP drift cars. So it's no more a fad then rat rod is to 32 Fords. Just a style of car personalization.

I saw those in euro style car magazines before I saw it anywhere else. Euro as in that's the origins as far as I've ever seen. But yes I agree, it's a stylistic choice, like rat rods, murdered out cars, slammed cars etc.

The reason for the stretched tire started in germany. People wanted wider wheels but there could not be any tire tread outside the wheel well. Hense getting a nice fat rim and puting a smaller tire to fit inside the wheel well will stretch the side wall of the tire. It caught on as a trend just like any other thing done to a car weather its fuctional or not.

I personally like the look 8)

well, isn't there a benefit in stretch as in your tire doesn't roll when the drifters get it sideways or throw your car in hard? less sidewall movement?
A friend asked me if I wanted a frozen banana, I said "No, but I want a regular banana later, so Yeah."

Yes. Less scrub time for the tire sidewall to roll( example on drag cars)

It makes handling quicker and more responsive in most cases.
