AWD?

Escape I still think is doable. There is a thread still going on FF, the one on FJ I brought up years and years back died long ago (thank god).

But the thing is, is it worth the effort?
IMO no, unless you are an all our ralley cross guy, but then you change classes and will get screwed in the end anyways.

I think doing an AWD conversion from any type of car truck or anything will be a little on the pricy side wheather it be from a GEO tracker or a Audi TT it will be expensive. I understand the Audi would be pricy getting ahold of but who wants to use a GEO.....Its just not as cool to say Yeah my Focus has a GEO Tracker Drive line... On the other hand it would sound a little better saying Yeah I've got a Audi TT steup in this Beast!! Then you might reply ummmm why didn't you just buy the Audi??

Part if it is that you would use a donor car that'd been totaled for some reason. I just helped a guy put the body from a '79 Bronco onto the frame and running gear from an '06 F150 so he could have the look of the '79 with all the modern running gear. The F150 had about 10k miles on it, but had been in a rollover, so he got it for about $6000. I'm sure it would have cost closer to $40,000 had he just gone out and bought a used '06 F150. Now he's got an old truck with all the good parts of having a new truck for about $8500.

This type of project is never about doing the cheapest or easiest thing. Driveline swaps are pretty much always about the cool factor.

But cool and practical are 2 different stories.

The X-Type stuff has been looked into and as far as measurements go, looks good, but try finding a junked one or even salvage parts. For that matter if something would break, try finding stock parts. If memory serves the new style T-bird is similar also, but again it's the availability.

I know there are a couple that have been made out there, but no one wishes to come forth and spill the beans, there has to be someone out there.

A turbo'd AWD focus would be bad ass.
it's a shame ford never made it to compete with the EVO and STI's
because the potential is there.

that is the reason for it. A> i love rally and it would be original B> i have plenty of evo and wrx/sti friends, and i want something different. i thought about the escape drive line, they use the duratec and are AWD in the 4 as far as i know, the only thing i dont know is to set up the manual. i want to keep it in the ford family, otherwise i would just go out and buy a sti or evo. and it has to be easier, for has been making a awd for the focus overseas, so there has to be an option! the u.s. rally focus is awd! and didnt the first WRC rally cars use the zetec? if i had the money for it i would just ship a st-3 over here from euro anyways! but i would like to know if i can do it here.

Who said anything about it being practical? I pretty much said it was never about being practical.

i would like to think that anything is possible in these cars, i have seen v8s v6s, awd, rwd, rear engines. im just wondering if anyone knows where to start on this AWD idea.

Honestly the X-type would be the perfect donor if you can find one wiht the engine trans combo you like.

Find a rollover and go nuts.

The Escape might be more work just trying to make things fit. Whatever you do it'll be a ton of work and you'll never get back out what you put in but you'll have a lot of fun if you make it work.

well i found a few things, either M-sport who does all the WRC work for ford motor company. also there is NACS (north american cosworth specialists) who may be able to get me some info. also if anyone is in want of one NACS has a cosworth escort for sale!

So your saying you just want to compete with the Jones?

Ya it's fun to BS about weird things and joke around, but when it comes down to the financial aspect, an awd Focus is quite pointless. For what it would seriously cost to do the swap, fabrication and buying the parts you could have already bought a used WRX or EVO and done mods to it. With just the cost of the swap alone you are not going to be able to compete even with the fwd Focus, you'd be slower with the added driveline losses and weight.
It would seriously be like having a 3' penis. Sure it's cool and something to talk about, but what good is it really?
But maybe your made of money, I don't know. Even if that's the case you will go broke in no time doing such a swap.

Seriously, man, what the hell? It really isn't about the money. It's about using your skills to make something you want. Hobbies are not there for financial gain, they're for personal fulfillment. If what I want to do for fun is to put an airplane engine on a go-cart then I'm going to try to put an airplane engine on a go cart. If what I find amusing is fixing up old arcade machines and playing them, then that's what I'll do. Sure, I could just buy a fast go-cart or use a free arcade emulator to get the same end result, but where's the journey and the story?

If you can't see that it's no wonder you're in hell.
