Odd idle issue
So, since I swapped the new engine in, I've been having an odd idle problem. If I'm driving and depress the clutch pedal, the engine will race to between 2k and 4k (seems pretty random). The problem is worse when it's warm. The thing I noticed today is that if the car is going under 10mph (as report...

Re: Engine Teardown
When's the last time you tried to buy a heater fan motor? 8) Scorpios were even more bizarre than the XR4Ti's, Now that I mentioned that I don't know the last time I saw one. O'Reilly's has them for $95, actually. The Scorpios have a much bigger presence in MN than in the rest of the country for so...

I'd say it was probably 3-5", but it's hard to say for sure.

Re: Engine swap advice needed
OK, 1 last question. Is there supposed to be a clip on the white shift cable? It popped off on my way home today and I had to pull over and pop it back on. I seem to remember pulling a clip from somewhere a week ago and just realized after this happened that I don't recall putting said clip back on....

Re: Engine swap advice needed
After about 6 hours of work today I completed the swap. It couldn't happen without one more part breaking on me, though. The serpentine belt tensioner snapped as I was putting the new belt on. I can't tell you how careful I was with the one from the old engine after that. I filled it up with oil, co...

Re: Carnage pics!
That's the miracle of hydrolock right there. I wish I could say that happened because I was running 500hp through the stock internals, but no such luck. I had a CAI and it sucked in a bunch of water into #2. After pulling off the head it's kind of looking like the rod may have bent enough to snap it...

Re: Engine swap advice needed
Ok, engine and tranny out. I've just about stripped the old engine. A bunch of the studs came out with the nuts. Am I correct in assuming there's no issue with using them like bolts? If it'll cause problems I can always take the nut off, install the stud and then put the nut back on when I'm ready t...

Carnage pics!
I got the engine and tranny out tonight (thank god) and took a couple pictures after I zipped most of the stuff off the block. I've posted them up here for all to see. I plan on pulling the whole thing apart and taking some more pictures. I figure I'll leave those up as a warning to those using a CA...

Re: Engine swap advice needed
I'm hoping I can get there tomorrow. I never can tell how late I'll be working (I was on the clock until 9:00 PM yesterday). I'm going to need an exhaust manifold gasket, too. I'm guessing the manifold to cat and cat to flex pipe gaskets will also be trashed and at least a TB gasket. Man, I'm glad I...

Re: Engine swap advice needed
5. the tool you see for the cv shafts is a tulip popper. you dont need it. pop the pass side out with a pry bar, and look in the hole, you will see the other axle with the dif pin in front. take a medium pry bar and put it on the axle in the trans( it forks to go around the dif pin) ...use commen s...

Re: Engine swap advice needed
Yeah, I don't care about the outer joint. No issues there. The inner joint is the one Ford says you can't extend past 18 degrees. For all I know, they've got captive c-clips and are impossible to remove without some special tool. I also want to know if there's a way I can do it myself. There's a goo...

Re: Engine swap advice needed
I don't honestly know if the water pump is worth doing now or not, as you should be able to do it later without too much trouble. It is driven by the accessory belt, so it isn't too hard to get to. Timing belt, tensioner, and idler I would do though, since those are a little bit more of a pain in t...

Re: Engine swap advice needed
You have axles in the rear? The axle nuts he's referring to are the ones holding the CV shaft to the hub assembly. I meant I'm assuming the axle nut on the front is a different size than the spindle nuts on the rear. On my XR, they're the same front and rear (1 5/8 or 42mm both work), but on most o...

Re: Engine swap advice needed
2) What special tools will I actually need? Do I really need a special tool for pulling the water hose clamps and adjusting the shift cables? No and No. I had to buy a few tools along the way, I did mine with all hand tools. You'll need a socket for the axle nut, clutch alignment tool (for putting ...
