My guess is a big part of it is our climate, opening and closing the hatch in sub-zero temps probably isn't doing it any favors.

I had to repair the wires in mine a few years ago, just spliced in extra wire.

The Vic was rated at 15/23, no reason it couldn't get mid twenties. Kind of have to love driving car that's nearly indestructible too.

I have discovered that it is a bit hard to find a replacement for the right CV shaft hanger bracket. The guys at Ford dealer told me the part number was 3S4Z-3K305-HA. Any chance you would be able to order one up for me or point me in the right direction? Well first off that's the wrong part number...
